good morning from unceded Darug lands☀️today on #Insiders are press gallery veterans Laura Tingle (now ABC) and Paul Kelly (murdoch sinecure for life or something). The interviews are with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and LOTO Peter Dutton. And John Howard.
opening spiel: the GG is about to declare Charles III king of Australia. Speers says the death of QEII is a profound moment “for Australia”. It would be more profound if nobody declared Charles III our king lol #Insiders
she visited Parliament House, where Speers is now, he says again, 11 years ago. He then claims collective “affection” for QEII on behalf of 25 million people, which is simply incapable of being accurate. She was there through [lists some atrocities without blame] #Insiders

The CCTV footage of Mum’s falls is really harrowing. There were gasps in the court when it was shown. Our family felt it was important for the world to see what happened to her. Trigger warning #JusticeforTanyaDay theguardian.com/australia-news…
I’ve also provided a detailed thread describing the footage for those who prefer not to watch

•3.56pm. Mum enters police cell with four officers.
•3.59pm. Left in cell on her own to "sober up"
•4.20pm. Mum stood up and walks to cell door in an attempt to open it. She stumbles back and tries to sit on the bench but the mattress had moved. This is the 1st fall and hit to the back of her head while trying to lay back down

Strongly encourage to have a read through this summary and my over the top thread 🙃#JusticeforTanyaDay hrlc.org.au/tanya-day-inqu…
The coroner found Shaun Irvine the Vline conductor who deemed her ‘unruly’ (while asleep) within 60 seconds of coming in contact with her was influenced by mums Aboriginality. When he notified the train driver he used the words “I want her off my train” #JusticeforTanyaDay
This was in part because mum was the first sleeping passenger he’d ever removed from a train. He gave evidence of encountering abusive and disruptive passengers before, but never felt the need to have them removed by police like mum #JusticeforTanyaDay

This was the first story released about what happened to mum..nearly a year after she passed. We waited over a month to lay our mum to rest and without knowing her cause of death

From the moment mum entered that police cell in Castlemaine information was withheld from family. We were told she was okay and being monitored
Little did we know they weren’t doing their adequate checks and leaving her to die on a cold concrete floor. It wasn’t until my Uncle called to say my brother was coming to pick her up that they entered that cell #JusticeforTanyaDay

It still extremely raw that Danny Wolters and Edwina Neale receive no punishment at all for taking our mother away from us
Vic Pol and DPP make a mockery of the “justice” system #JusticeforTanyaDay
We’re in a global black lives matter movement and the fact that the DPP decided not to prosecute while having all the evidence and tools they needed speaks volumes about systemic racism and police impunity in this country #JusticeforTanyaDay
How many more Aboriginal people will die at the hands of police and in prison before they say enough is enough. Our mob will continue to die in custody until the legal system changes and police are held accountable #JusticeforTanyaDay

I want to bring it back to #BlackLivesMatterAustralia and share some of the stories/voices of the families that I'm working closely with.

There's 438 black deaths since 1991. There are so many stories you should know. #SayTheirNames
Blak deaths in custody continue at horrific rates - despite 29 years ago a Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths In Custody which set out a roadmap of why and how to prevent blak deaths. The 339 recommendations have been ignored. Read them here. austlii.edu.au/au/other/Indig…
Blak deaths in custody continue for many reasons but largely the systemic, structural & direct racism in the justice & coronial systems, lack of accountability & because we are mass incarcerated in the first place. Our mob are 28% of prisons but only 2% of the population.
