In these unusual times, many must do unusual things. The justice system must too, and I want to talk a bit about what it takes to get that done. This morning, the Kansas Supreme Court held its first Zoom oral argument—in a case filed three days ago. 1/ #ksleg #kscourts
I have no involvement in the case heard today, but I'm on the Kansas Court of Appeals. We too want to do some electronic oral arguments, so we've been working with the court's IT staff and our Supreme Court. As of midweek this week, we were still working through issues. 2/2
But events obviously overtook the normal pace of that prep work, and our Supreme Court set a quick hearing in an important suit between the Governor and the Legislature. That meant that justices, their research attorneys, and the IT staff no doubt had to go into overdrive. 3/x
