A couple of people asked how I managed to get into the #labourconference hall despite being expelled (short thread)...
Basically, the shambolic, desperate purge of delegates at the last minute meant I received my pass in the 7 days between my initial warning and my actual expulsion, which came on the Thursday before conference.
Brighton is 1.5hrs from London - I thought it was worth a punt.

Fascinating (and telling) discussion being chaired by @CER_Grant at #LabourConference on how Labour would rebuild relations with Europe with @hilarybennmp @lisanandy @JennyChapman ...and how quickly it collapses into 2017-style cakeism /1
@CER_Grant @hilarybennmp @lisanandy @JennyChapman So @lisanandy says not realistic that labour campaigns on rejoining customs union and single market...and @JennyChapman wants to rebuild the relationship 'bit by bit'...but doesn't want to engage with the 'ratchet' that leads to a 'Norway for Now' relationship./2
@CER_Grant @hilarybennmp @lisanandy @JennyChapman Then @hilarybennmp talks about Ukraine agreement as a template -- but that's an agreement predicated on a state moving towards membership.

And as all three dodge specifics, the discussion collapses into an appeal for "good will and flexibility" from the EU. /3

The right of women to determine the language that describes us is not an abstract demand. It is rooted in the material reality of our lives. It is vital for us to describe our experience; to uphold & improve our rights. Our manifesto: womansplaceuk.org/wpuk-manifesto… #Cervix #Women #Lab21
Our manifesto has a long list of demands to be enacted so that society can begin to address the oppression and discrimination women face. We are tired of being told to wait for equality. We refuse to be told how and when we can make these demands or the language we must use.
The fact that there are so many demands is an indictment of a political estate which continues to fail women. Women have been repeatedly let down by politicians across the spectrum and organisations which should be advocating for and with us.

We never expected to see what we saw yesterday. A sea of Palestinian flags inside @UKLabour Conference, chants of “Free Palestine” and of “From the River to the Sea” as if missing the rest of that makes it somehow less threatening, less antisemitic.
We never expected to see Holocaust deniers being granted passes to the secure area that enabled them to wander freely. We never expected party officials to deny that pass was ever given even in the face of photographs showing it was.
We never expected to be sitting in on the Conference floor as Labour members, as delegates, as Jews and feel as if we were not wanted there, to feel threatened, unsafe.

My blood pressure is through the roof as rejection of #ChequersPlan means No Deal Brexit is more likely.
1. Cameron should never have gambled with the UK's future to appease Tory Eurosceptics, nor should he have said the decision of that advisory vote would be implemented.
1/5
2. May did not need to trigger A50 when she did.
3. She should have commissioned thorough impact reports & allowed full consideration & debate in Parliament & engaged with business/NHS etc.
4. Labour (together with other parties) should have acted early on as scrutineers.
2/5
5. If we hadn't had 8 years of Austerity, many of the reasons for people voting to leave wouldn't have existed.
6. We should have insisted that lies & propaganda in the mainstream media were tackled.
7. The Electoral Commission failed in their duty.

PRESS STATEMENT:

#OpenSelection is a grassroots initiative by ordinary #Labour members.
We have NEVER been encouraged or contacted by @jeremycorbyn or anyone from his office,@uklabour HQ, or the front bench.

(thread)

theguardian.com/politics/2018/…
We respect @jeremycorbyn as the democratically-elected leader of @uklabour. But if he asked us to stop the campaign, we would NOT. Sorry.

We have had to wait 18 months for our #OpenSelection motion to be debated at #LabourConference and will not pull out now.
Our campaign is for Labour members to have a democratic vote on the BEST Labour candidate for their seat. Every election.

It's not about a 'purge' - it's about a principle.

Hope that puts your minds at ease, @guardian & @angelasmithmp! 😌
