THREAD

With The Corbyn Experiment ending on Saturday it’s worth looking at what he is leaving behind & how/where it happened

In 12 charts I have plotted Labour’s GE performance & other things between 1918-2019

I’m adding here some people who may find this of interest

@Keir_Starmer @RLong_Bailey @lisanandy @PeoplesMomentum @UKLabour @jeremycorbyn

And others who will most likely care about it

Chart #1

This shows the deficit between Labour’s vote share in GE2019 in all regions of Great Britain versus the best they have ever done in all GEs since 1918. Unsurprisingly the only close correlation is in London. What happened?

Dear @UKLabour NEC,
Thank you for taking the time out of a deadly global pandemic and a country-wide lockdown to reject my membership application at 1:51am on a Tuesday morning.

I hope you appreciate my response.
#LabourLeadershipElection 🥀
TLDR:
Labour rejected my application for telling the Dems/Greens that my joining was the best thing I could do to help them.

a) That doesn't mean it was my main reason for joining.
b) What's the FIRST THING Labour will say in any electoral pact negotiation? "This will help you"!
Oh and to the people saying now's not the time:

You are the same as the people telling me now's not the time to talk about Brexit when the deadline for the negotiations is in July!
Only with Labour, the deadline for the Leadership elections votes is still in NINE DAYS!

As ballot papers begin to arrive, a lot of people have been asking me how the Labour Leadership election works; both in respect of the amount candidates are allowed to spend (the spending cap), and the transparency of donations to candidates.

So here is a short(ish) thread. 1/11
In part, these questions have been asked following some social media comments about donations to the Keir Starmer campaign. But what applies to all candidates applies to the Starmer campaign. Suggestions that he is operating to different standards are just not credible.

2/ 11
Firstly it's important to note that all of the candidates are 'Regulated Donees' - how their campaigns are funded mustn't just meet the rules set by the Labour Party, but must also comply fully with the Political Parties, Elections and Referendum Act (PPERA).

I remember when @UKLabour championed the cause of single sex wards in #NHS hospitals -it wasn’t controversial in the labour movement
But now, in 2020, we have a candidate in the #LabourLeadershipElection saying single sex spaces, as allowed in law, should be abolished
reporting of breaches to same-sex accommodation guidance became mandatory
The guidance said; “Providers of NHS-funded care are expected to have a zero-tolerance approach to mixed-sex accommodation, except where it is in the overall best interest of all patients affected”
Everyone agreed and there were financial penalties applied to to breaches

One day after #GE2019, @guardian let Kenneth Stern (who drafted the #IHRA definition of Antisemitism) say if "[Jared] Kushner or I had been born into a Palestinian family displaced in 1948, we might have a different view of Zionism, & that need not be because we vilify Jews."
Kenneth Stern wrote in @guardian with readers in the #US in mind. He explained that @ZOA_National sees the #IHRA definition as stopping @NationalSJP from calling for ‘#intifada’. But he says @NationalSJP has the right to make “calls” he doesn't like. "That’s called free speech."
Here @BoardofDeputies has told candidates in the #LabourLeader elections to apply the #IHRA definition "with all its examples & clauses", "without qualification". But, as @JVoiceLabour explains, they don't require the #IHRA definition of others. Why not? jewishvoiceforlabour.org.uk/statement/resp…

How did Labour Leadership and Deputy Leadership hopefuls respond to the US attack on Iranian general Qassem Suleimani in Baghdad?

Angel Fans,
I just made the same decision he made at the end of season 4 / start of 5.
Really hope it's the right one. I do think any other decision would have been naive and arguably selfish in the circumstances.
(I know the analogy is harsh. But I mean party politics generally)
For the "uninitiated"... Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a show which explores the challenges of growing up through the metaphors of various monsters and enemies. Angel (the spin-off) explores early adulthood.
For the first four seasons, Angel leads his own team in the fight against evil. In season five he entered an organisation he used to fight because its resources would allow him to do more good.
It's an analogy for how adults have to enter flawed systems to make real change.
