More amazing videos of Mauna Loa’s eruption in #Hawaii. Lava is about 3 miles from the major highway that connects Hilo and Kona. Officials say they’re equipped to shut down roads as early as Friday if lava crosses l l the road.

2) Eruption continues at impressive intensity. Lava output rate remains very high, volcanic tremor is stable at high levels. New lava flow from vents just below NW base of erupting cone, slowly wind thru land N of existing flow field, destroying more buildings & infrastructure.
3) ➡ Dawn is the fifteenth day of the eruption.
➡ There have been no personal injuries and we are already working on the recovery of the areas of influence of the flows.
➡ The volcano continues to evolve within the parameters predicted by scientists.

2- #CharlesLyell (1797-1875) nació precisamente en #Escocia el mismo año en que moría otro gran geólogo de la época, el escocés #JamesHutton. Una curiosa coincidencia, como la existente entre #Galileo (1564-1642) y #Newton (1642-1727). Casualidades…!

#Sentinel5P #Tropomi data on May 23 show SO₂ emissions from the #Nyiragongo #eruption. SO₂ to the SE over #Tanzania is at higher altitude (perhaps to tropopause level) and was emitted during the initial, more energetic phase of the eruption (17:00 UTC, May 22). @VirungaSupersit
Strong signs of a potential #volcano #eruption near #Keilir on #Reykjanes peninsula. Scientists reporting #earthquake patterns that are similar to the start of an eruption. Eruption likely to start within the next few hours.
The ICAO airport code for @kefairport and #Reykjavik airport have been raised to Orange - which indicates a high likelihood of imminent eruption. Rescue teams are being put on standby. Coast Guard @gaeslan helicopter to fly over the area shortly. Press briefing scheduled for 1600
This potential eruption is not expected to cause any damage to infrastructure and towns/cities according to @almannavarnir. The eruption has not yet started and is far away from habited places.
Based on the latest satellite data there are signs of #magma buildup. Over 30cm of rising is the highest seen so far in the area. This has caused scientists to add a potential scenario of a volcanic #eruption in the area west of Keilir mountain in #Reykjanes peninsula. #icemagma
This magma buildup is the likely cause of the #earthquake swarm over the past few days. Most likely location if #magma does reach the surface is behind Keilir and #lava would most likely flow only to uninhabited areas.
Potential #eruptions in the #Reykjanes peninsula are not explosive eruptions but rather basic lava eruptions - similar to the #Holuhraun eruption in 2014. The area is known for eruption periods, lasting 1-200 years, and calm periods lasting like this one for 800 years.
