I have more pics and tips from my “birthday project”, a modular #LEGO dungeon scenics set designed for #TheFantasyTrip. If you missed Part 1, you can find the thread collected here.

For this new version, I’ve finished texturing the wall sections and painting the doorways. I also have some construction detail pics and notes on construction variations. Here’s the Black Baron and his friend Leo (aka “Tin Hat”) entering the first room.
I’m going for something easy to construct on the fly from pre-assembled components, with a nice balance of playability and appearance. Half-height walls are one of the decisions I made early.

On my 65th birthday a few days ago, I decided I’d devote some time this weekend to a “birthday project” - a creative effort just for me. I’ve been playing with ideas for a modular #LEGO dungeon designed for #TheFantasyTrip. Here’s where I am so far.
Designing in LEGO for a hex board is challenging. LEGO does not lend itself 60 degree angles easily. Hinged bricks and plates left offsets I found difficult to work with. I found two parts that were really helpful.
The smaller plates would be covered by the 1 brick thick walls allowing the walls to sit flat on a megahex mat, but I went with the bigger ones once I came up with the idea of putting a “false floor” in the rooms.

#Pumpy paper is out @NatureComms - "Automating Multimodal Microscopy with NanoJ-Fluidics"! We developed an open-source inexpensive #LEGO-based fluidics system that can be coupled to a microscope to achieve high-performance imaging nature.com/articles/s4146…
We created video abstract with @LaineBioImaging and @christlet that quickly explains paper. #Pumpy enables live-to-fixed imaging, fixation-on-event, super-resolution sequential-labelling (unlim. number protein species), it adds a new dimension to what’s possible at the microscope
@LaineBioImaging @christlet @palmada86 @P_Matos_Pereira did an excellent job making #Pumpy happen. An excellent collaboration with the Charras, @BaumBuzz and @christlet labs. Kudos to @christlet, despite the distance we interacted almost on a daily basis getting the paper together

It's #InternationalLegoClassicismDay! So, to celebrate, here's the story of the first Ugaritic text to be discovered, via the medium of Lego. #ILCD2019 #Lego
In 1929 a farm labourer at Minet el-Beida on the coast of what's now Syria struck a stone while ploughing a field. It was part of a bronze age chamber tomb. #ILCD2019
Soon the French mandate's archaeologists descended on the site and on the tell of Ras Shamra just inland. They were led by Claude Schaeffer, who would oversee work there for decades to come. #ILCD2019

This is an abstract of a 10 year career in tech.

The odds were never in my favor, specially to work with technology.

When I was a kid I wanted a SNES, dad said no, it's a boy's toy.

I was always good with math, but when I wanted Lego as a gift, they gave me barbies.
Then I managed to join a really good High School. For each opening I had to compete with another 30 people to get in. I got in, but failed on 2nd year.

Then the teachers striked for 3 months in one year and 2 months in another. No way to finish my last year in time
That's when I got my 1st PC. At 18yo.

Then, I managed while on the last year, to get a scholarship for a preparatory course for college, my odds were 25 to 1.

I managed! Electrical Engineering at top school!

So... I JUST FOUND A CAT THAT IS NOT MINE AND IT HAS HAD BABIES UNDER MY BED.
Trying to adjust to the catshit crazy reality of going upstairs to grab a jumper but instead finding a cat and 4 kittens. Am I dad now?
Paternal instincts kicking in. Overwhelmed with feels. Don't know how to deal.
