LA LEPTOSPIROSIS es una enfermedad zoonótica de potencial epidémico, principalmente después de lluvias fuertes, causada por una bacteria llamada leptospira. 
Los seres humanos generalmente adquieren la leptospirosis por contacto directo con la orina de animales infectados (RATAS) o con un ambiente contaminado por orina. La transmisión de humano a humano ocurre muy raramente.
Generalmente, la enfermedad se presenta en cuatro categorías clínicas amplias:
Una enfermedad leve con los síntomas de tipo gripal;
Síndrome de Weil caracterizado por ictericia, falla renal, hemorragia y miocarditis con arritmias;
