[Thread] Dear fellow Gautengers

A plea to take extra precaution🙏

The 3rd wave of hospitalisations is here! #COVID19 numbers are about to exceed previous peaks. We're entering uncharted territory. How high we go is still up to us,and our collective behaviour!
Gauteng is currently the epicentre of South Africa's 3rd wave, and the most populous province in SA 🇿🇦

There have been over 35000 new cases reported in Gauteng over the past 7 days, i.e. an average of over 5000 per day, up 88% compared to the previous week 📈

Being Covid positive is not your fault, don't blame yourself! And not a death sentence; most people will fortunately recover 🙏

But be responsible and notify possible contacts and exposures. Numbers too high for tracking and tracing now, so it's up to us!

[Thread] 1. #CyrilRamaphosa: Restrictions are effective in bringing down #COVID infections. But although we have reason to hope, we still have a mountain to climb.
2. #CyrilRamaphosa: A third wave of infections are upon us. Since my last family meeting (2 weeks ago), the average nr of new infections has doubled from 3 700 daily infections to over 7500. Deaths have increased by 48% from 535 to 791 in the past 7 days.
3. #CyrilRamaphosa: Gauteng is particularly bad. The increase in #COVID infections in Gauteng is now worse than they were in previous waves at the same stage of the wave.

#JoburgUpdates Fellow South Africans, in just 4 days from now, we will be ushering in a new year. This is traditionally a time of festivity & celebrating. Unfortunately, for us here in South Africa & others around the world, there is little cause for celebration this year ^GZ
#JoburgUpdates Yesterday, we passed the mark of more than one million confirmed coronavirus cases in our country. Nearly 27,000 South Africans are known to have died from #COVID19 #FamilyMeeting ^GZ
#JoburgUpdates The number of new coronavirus infections is climbing at an unprecedented rate. More than 50,000 new cases have been reported since Christmas Eve #FamilyMeeting #Covid19 ^GZ

Meanwhile in #France,
"the peak of this second wave is over"

(according to the President in his Adress to the Nation):
Wait... "the peak is over" doesn´t mean "it´s back to normal"!

Confinement will only fall on December 15,
if there´s less than 5.000 new cases a day.
(today it´s ~9.000).

France is disappointed.🙁

Although they certainly can make it happen.
Meanwhile in #Switzerland:
(excess mortality of the second wave is significant)

Good news: fastest decrease in infections happens in the worst hit areas now.

As #COVID19 cases are found to spread, #Melbourne (city of ~5 million) tries to contain them by going into #Lockdown.
(The interview features the idea of a dedicated #Quarantine building - that would actually help, I guess)...
"People acting as if the pandemic was over was 'not the answer, it is part of the problem' ".

"The virus had leaked from postcodes already under the stay-at-home orders to other parts of #Melbourne."
(and beyond, it is feared).
Due to #Melbourne's outbreak, neighbouring South Australia is about to completely close it's borders to #Victoria.

(Nearly) no exceptions. And those essential few who are allowed in, will have to wear facemasks the entire time...

Vorpommern-Greifswald district (where rejections of #Gütersloh residents took place, yesterday)
has specific rules:
"Those who return from international risk areas (out of Germany) or whose Corona-Warning App has alerted them, need to report to authorites" Image
In fact, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's Corona-ordinance really prohibits entry of people from international risk areas AND german risk areas as well.
It's just not prominently featured on their websites.

(Overlooked that myself, hence deleted earlier tweet)… Image
People from #Gütersloh district may have to scrap all their holiday plans anyway...

An official #Lockdown is just being announced for the entire district.
(for one week, as of now)

SPECIAL ANALYSIS: Mass testing for #COVID__19 antibodies, screening checkpoints, contact tracing and immunity passports are only necessary to the #PoliceState in its efforts to further undermine the Constitution.

War on #drugs turned out to be a war on the #American people, waged with SWAT teams and militarized police. The war on terror a war waged with warrantless surveillance and indefinite detention. The war on #Immigration a war waged with roving government agents demanding “papers. Image
This war on #COVID19 will be yet another war on the #American people, waged with all of the surveillance weaponry at the government’s disposal: thermal imaging cameras, drones, contact tracing, biometric databases, etc.

President #Ramaphosa: My Fellow South Africans, it has been exactly seven weeks since the first case of the coronavirus was confirmed in our country.

Since then, all our lives have changed in fundamental ways.

President #Ramaphosa: As a nation we have been forced to take aggressive action against an invisible enemy that threatened our lives and the lives of our loved ones.

We have been forced to adapt to a new way of living, in a short space of time.
President #Ramaphosa: As we enter the fifth week of an unprecedented nation-wide lockdown – and as we look to the future – we should remember why we are here. The #coronavirus, which was identified in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December, has spread rapidly across the world.
