:: "Passive link building" = wrong impression? ::

I'm not a fan of the phrase,
as it easily falls in with the concept of
"write it and they shall come".

Where as terms such as:
* Link Magnets
* Earning Links
are more ... well, Active.

A concept I seem to have to constantly repeat,
is know where the links are going to come from.

In the vast majority of cases, consumers aren't it.
(They may socialise etc., but few have sites/blogs etc.)

Thus content for:
* Peers
* Hybrids (peer consumers)
* Media

>>>
3/?

This means you need to know who has sites,
and what sort of things they are looking for.

You can group the types of content into several broad groups, including:

1) Useful
2) Ego
3) Status

Each group tends to cover certain formats/types of content.

Remember I started my own website a few months ago? Here is the 3 months case study! 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻

This is a niche website that I started 3 months ago. The whole idea behind this blog is simple: practice my SEO skills and try to rank this website 😎 Image
So here is what I did in the last couple of months:

1. Built a WordPress website with a simple and fast theme
2. Developed a content strategy and published around 100 articles (2 writers hired)
3. Internal linking
4. Basic technical optimization
5. No link-building was done!
I started doing #linkbuilding a few days ago with these 2 simple methods:

- HARO (responding to relevant quires. NOTE: for this niche, there are not many of them)
- Guest post outreach (Finding relevant websites where I can publish and get a link to the homepage)

How to do "white-hat" link building even @JohnMu can get behind.

SPOILER 🚨: it's not as easy as buying content with a 🔗 insert and this is what makes it so effective.

🧵 ..
@JohnMu FWIW, white-hat link building is a made-up term.
It means nothing.

One person's white hat is another person's grey/black.

In this context, #whitehat #linkbuilding = not paying for a placement or 'admin fee'.

Now we got that out of the way let's dive in.
@JohnMu This method gets called a few things:
• statistic pieces
• research reports
• "content marketing" 😏

💡 It involves collecting YOUR OWN data.

💡 It differs from the common approach of regurgitating the SAME data sources.

💡 This differentiation is HOW you will EARN links.

Here is a thread about how to gain some permanent backlinks for around the price of a domain name.

I'm not saying you should do this.

Let's just say it's a very creative, hypothetical way to get backlinks though.

#seo #nichesites #contentsites #linkbuilding

🧵🪡
First things first, head to expireddomains.net and set yourself up an account.

Logging in gives you access to more information about the domain names that are being shown on the site.
When you're logged in, you want to head to the Deleted Domains page member.expireddomains.net/domains/combin…

The default view shows you all of the domains that have recently been deleted.

To get backlinks, your data-backed research reports don't have to be:

• a fancy, interactive landing page
• 3,000+ words with lots of charts

Here's a look at the "bite-sized reports" that @zapier has been doing 👇
1/ These are a bit hard to find since they aren't in one subfolder, but in @ahrefs you can go to the Site Explorer, type in "zapier.com", then choose "Best by links" and filter the URLs for the word "report" Image
2/ Example 1: Side Hustle Report

Results:
• 700+ referring domains
• Links from Yahoo, Business Insider, CNBC, Buzzfeed, etc.
• Ranks for keywords like "side hustle stats" Image

:: Link Building - calculating whether it's worth it ::

Top competitors estimated Keyword Traffic,
multiplied by Keyword CPC,
divided by total linking sites,
multiplied by 24.

If less than 5K, don't bother.

I have some issues with this...

A) What about the Client?
There's nothing about the clients existing (or not) backlink profile,
nor is there anything about their current ranking for that term either.

Ranking closely or having no real BLP should make a difference.

B) It's not always about SEO!
Links can serve more than Ranking - they can help with awareness, trust/authority, lead generation and conversions.

Consider the potential audiences and possible non-SEO gains of being mentioned and linked!

🧵SEO is Hard 🧵

I think a lot, if not all, of us who work in SEO understand this, but what can make it harder is when you're down MoM or YoY compared to where you were.

You feel like a failure, but I'm here to tell you that is not the case.

Let me explain in this thread...
1⃣ People May Be Searching Less 1⃣

This is the case for us. As an SEO who works in ecommerce, organic growth and revenue growth matters.

When you're down in traffic and revenue, just have a look at keyword planner.. You may find people are just searching less.

That's okay!
The cost of living is higher, inflation is becoming a HUGE issue, people have re-evaluated where they're spending for 2022 compared to 2021.

If you're down, take a look at Google Keyword Planner. You may find searches are down for your key terms.

It's natural and it happens.

Link building tactics that aren't "dead"

🤝 Guest posting
🔗 Unlinked mentions
📣 HARO

Here's how to do these the right way 👇
I chose these three because:

• they're relatively easy to do
• there are tools that help make these easier to do
• they all add value (probably the most important factor)
FYI, this is part two of my mega thread from last week (I'd recommend reading this one first):

Building links this year? There are many tactics to try, but only a few will get you actual results.

🧵 This thread covers:

• 3 tactics that don’t work
• 3 tactics that do
I'll be covering why you should stop doing these:

🛑 #1 Skyscraper technique
🛑 #2 Broken backlink building
🛑 #3 Buying "500 DA 50+ links for $50"

And start doing these:

✅ #1 Stats compilation
✅ #2 Data-backed research report
✅ #3 Create a free tool
🛑 #1 Skyscraper technique 🏙

This is when you copy a backlink campaign that a competitor did, except you "one up" them and make it "10x better".

3 reasons why I wouldn’t highly recommend this...

2 ½ years ago, when I started blogging, this was the only #linkbuilding tactic on my arsenal. My main goal back then was just to lead new readers back to my blog through participating on relevant discussions (on other blogs and forums).
vjudge.net/user/42networks That paid off. Because I was able to build relationships with other bloggers and I also get click-through traffic from the blog comments and forum contributions I made almost every day
42networksapp.onlc.fr If you’re providing great stuff on your site that people can really get value from, then this strategy will certainly be a good fit for you. Find communities that have strong interactions in your space and start getting involved.

High value #linkbuilding that respects your spend, gathers pace quickly and produces real-world results. The key to good link building is finding the perfect balance between big content plays and smaller, tactical #campaigns that deliver the signals that move your #rankings.

Delivering consistent, high ROI links that undisputedly drive rankings

Once you understand the simple mechanics of contextual #linkbuilding, the process of adding links to your website becomes intuitive. Page by page you need to go through your website adding links that will help you reach your goal.
slotjoker123.onlc.fr If you’re trying to boost the visibility of some overlooked pages, you might link to them from a high-traffic page. If you’d like to keep people clicking through your site, you might add links when new ideas are introduced.
findaspring.com/members/jokers… For a page of great importance, you may link several pages to it to increase visibility. If a page is ranking poorly for an important keyword, use that keyword as anchor text when linking to that page. As with everything in life, there can be too much

How to capitalize on broken links 🔗🔗🔗 [thread 🤓]

A great way to augment your link building campaign would be to look for opportunities among the broken links.

#SEO #linkbuilding Image
This tactic is comprised of three parts:

1⃣Research broken links on the websites covering your niche 🔎
2⃣Create (or find) some content that would be a perfect substitute 📰
3⃣Shoot an email to your prospects offering to link to your content ✉️
Here's how to manage this process with SEO PowerSuite tools ⚙️

Step 1. Create an SEO SpyGlass's project for the domain you want to check for broken links (make sure the 'Enable expert options' checkbox is active).
