.@vonderleyen poised to interview @MaireadMcGMEP & @AMcDowell early this week. For which job? Unclear! Maybe @dreynders gets trade portfolio... or sth else in case of reshuffle!
Such is the absurdity of the “1 country-1 commissioner” rule. #IamEuropean
politico.eu/newsletter/bru…
Of course, "the @EU_Commission shall be completely independent" and "the members of the Commission shall neither seek nor take instructions from any Government". (Art. 17.3 TEU #LisbonTreaty). So there should be no need for #1country1commissioner rule. #IamEuropean 🇪🇺
Furthermore, "As from 1/11/2014, the @EU_Commission shall consist of a number of members [equal to] two thirds of the number of Member States" (Art. 17.5 TEU #LisbonTreaty)..... "unless the @EUCouncil [...] decides to alter this number". Which it did right away. #IamEuropean 🇪🇺

Yesterday, the Presidents of the #EuropeanParliament, #EuropeanCommission, #EuropeanCouncil and #ECB celebrated the 10 years of the #LisbonTreaty. It marked a step forward, yet the #EU remains blocked by unanimity and has not strengthened its democracy.
10 years after the #LisbonTreaty and despite a provision to the contrary, we are still forced to have exactly one Commissioner per Member State -- with no considerations for the efficiency of our #EU governance.
10 years after the #LisbonTreaty, the #EU remains unable to act swiftly to resolve crises, defend its interests and promote its values. Where is the EU in #HongKong? In #Ukraine? In #Xinjiang? Have we ensured social protection for all Europeans? A European defence?

Have you read how the Lisbon Treaty will force the UK to adopt the Euro and join the Schengen Area?

You've probably seen one of the attached during your journey through social media. The Lisbon Treaty outlines plenty of changes happening in 2020 and 2022, right? Wrong.

'Why should I believe a remoaner?', you ask. You don't have to. Debunk the myths yourself.
1. Open up the Treaty - eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/… (web) or assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/upl… (PDF)
2. Ctrl+F
3. Search '2020' - no matches will be found
4. Search '2022' - no matches will be found
5. Pat yourself on the back, you've debunked the myths. The Treaty contains no such changes.
