Motivational-ish interviewing (PreCOVID)

I'd just finished this heartfelt soliloquy about smoking cessation. We talked about grandbabies and his life and his lungs and his heart. He was looking deep into my eyes--like it was really resonating.

Me: "So, what do you think?" Image

Me: "How ready to you feel to quit?"

He furrowed his brow and squinted his eyes. Then he settled back into the chair next to the desk and let out an easy smile. A pack of Newports bulged in his front pocket.

He saw me see it and let out an exasperated sigh.

Shoot.

Next he rubbed his head, let out a raspy chuckle, and shook his head.

Him: "Tell me, doc. You ever had somebody piss you off REAL bad on a job you hate--then step outside on a break, flick your lighter and then take a good, hard drag on a menthol cigarette?"

*silence*

There was a code blue on the ground floor. Weird considering no code blue is ever called there.

Wait.

Codes DO happen there. But it never reaches the overhead sirens since almost always it's happening in the emergency dept where everyone is already there and ready.

Weird.

I was on the tenth floor when I heard it. Typically those nearby run to get to the code. I wasn't near. But I did wonder what it was all about. Grady is busy, though. There's lots that I wonder about.

And then I go on to wondering about something else.

Yeah.

A few hours had passed. I was checking on one of my patients. The patient in the bed next to his was talking about what he thought had happened.

Neighbor Patient: "Somebody got shot right in front of Grady!"
Me: "Really? Oh my goodness. I hadn't heard that."

Not apparent yet to most of the media and to the electorate in general is that @AlbertaParty candidates are *not compelled* to project a party platform, policy or talking point @CBCEyeopener. There is no party Whip. We are free address issues consistent with overall party values
The plan is to remain consistent, to support free votes in the legislature with our MLAs representing the views of their constituents in a meaningful way. If it seems to voters like a new way to behave in politics, imagine the shock to candidates. We have to think! #abparty
Which leads me to @SMandel_AB's appearance on the @CBCEyeopener this morning. His position is clear on the idea of required vaccinations for children enrolled in publicly funded institutions. It is a policy idea -- one that polls well in Alberta -- caught in the media eye #abpoli
