At 30 mins in, you’ll hear testimony about something called an “immediate suspension order”. This is the admin tool that DEA used to take away Dr Bockoff’s DEA license & take his assets, w/o having to file charges. #DEACenteredCare #Suicide
And this is the same hearing that billionaire law-firm attorneys used as part of their cases. THIS shows how the #LitigationNarrative has had and is still having a direct, deadly effect on patients’ ability to access and maintain medical care related to rx opioids.

“These lawsuits are attempts to subject businesses to liability to solve a societal problem—regardless of fault, who caused the harm, whether the elements of the tort are met, or even if the liability will actually address the issue.”#LitigationNarrative

“In recasting the litigation under public nuisance law, lawyers hoped to circumvent the responsibility of individuals. Richard Scruggs, a renowned former plaintiffs’ attorney, explained that the legal theories most likely to resonate are those that “do not hinge on fault,” but..
..are based simply on the fact that these entities made money selling opioids. Their success will depend on “whether the plaintiffs can muster sufficient legal, political and public relations pressure to force a settlement.”

“I’d be dead without opioids,” Garland says. Doctors aren’t just being more cautious now. They’re being irresponsible. We’ve reached a sad point in America when our animals are treated better than people.” @LelenaPeacock @JSG_54 @process_x @NitaGhei 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Dez: “The disruption in my pain tx resulted in a severe flareup of my illnesses which ended with organ failure, emergency surgery, & sepsis. By the time I was out of the hospital, I was being given my final taper & quickly developed infections within 12 hours of my final dose”.
Nita G: “this practice is driven by a false narrative that the recent epidemic of opioid-related deaths is caused by overprescription of opioids & that tapering will improve patient safety and quality of life. However, more and more, the practice is having the opposite effect.”

@ibdgirl76 The anti-opioid crowd also knows there are ethical problems with a control group in a long-term study in which opioids are beneficial (excluding controls a benefit is unethical).

They cite a “lack of data,” knowing it’s disingenuous - but knowing policymakers don’t know better!
@ibdgirl76 This is like saying there is no data from RCTs showing that parachutes are effective, then insisting on doing those studies to justify parachutes’ use.

It would be unethical to make controls jump from flying planes without parachutes, as they would certainly be harmed, right? 🤔
@ibdgirl76 But it turns out that there *IS* an RCT of parachutes that shows they are no more effective than empty back packs when jumping from a plane!! 😱

That is, when the plane is stationary and on the ground!!

#WAOpioidTrial Day 43 of the state of WA v McKesson, et al resumes at this link this morning. The trial began Nov. 15, 2021 and the state rested their case on day 34 (3/1/2022) and then there were motions to dismiss and FASCINATING arguments each way.

#WAOpioidTrial Defense began presenting their case the afternoon of day 36, on March 8, 2022.

We resume defense's case this morning with a live witness Dr. Chris Gilligan, an anesthesiologist out of Boston. Looks like he testified in the WV trial wvgazettemail.com/news/health/do…
#WAOpioidTrial His opinions on treating pain with RX opioids: forthcoming.

So far we're defining 'categories of pain' based on duration:

Acute < six weeks
Chronic Cancer Pain
Chronic Non-Cancer Pain

PRO-TIP: The FDA has declared there is NO difference between those last two.

#WAOpioidTrial Day 23 is now starting. Good morning!

Here's the AM link. Also it is snowing here this morning, WTF??

#WAOpioidTrial IANAL here but it seems like the state just got admonished a bit for trying to pull some exhibit back OFF the record after defense went to the expense of reviewing; state doubles down and says they are SURE it will be in; then tried to pull it. Judge said nope.
#WAOpioidTrial And now we resume McKesson's counsel cross-examining Dr. Daniel Ciccarone, MD, MPH. He's a widely respected harms reduction expert (among many other things). He's been testifying about the uptick in heroin/fentanyl use, generally.

#WAOpioidTrial Day 21 is now starting. Here is this morning's link, good only as long as the court is in this morning's session. It will disappear at around noon when the court adjourns for lunch.

Will the 'not-an-expert-witness' shenanigans continue? 🤔

#WAOpioidTrial Oh that is interesting - Dr. Banta-Green just closed that the attorney I assumed was 'his' is actually representing the University of Washington .. . from the WA State Attorney General's office.

Um. It's the AG who is the plaintiff. Well. That's curious.
#WAOpioidTrial McKesson's counsel is cross-examining Dr. Banta-Green. Showing this site from ADAI. Specifically THIS chart. Showing hospitalization rates ... by substance. Most of which . . . are not RX opioids.

What Your Death Certificate Says About You May Be Wrong: A Narrative Review on CDC's Efforts to Quantify Prescription Opioid Overdose Deaths - PubMed pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34667687/
No distinction between illicit opioids vs rx. ALL were coded and presented as rx. One of the most egregious things about this is the fact that deadly illicit fent, which was one of the main factors in most of the ODs, was and still is presented as an rx opioid.

I'd like to explain why #PainPatients & the #disability community is having a VERY difficult time w/this suite of articles about #ChronicPain.
I did find a more balanced view in some of the articles, & that's a good start for journos covering #ChronicPain. Sadly, it isn't enough.
For the past 7 years, #PainPatients have endured the draconian shift in #healthcare & attitudes toward pain & disability.

Countless patients lost their meds.
Many patients lost their doctors.
Some patients lost their jobs, their spouses, even their children.

Some of us died.🥺
In 2016, the #CDC unleashed their #Guidelines for prescribing #opioids for #ChronicPain.

The guidelines were adopted as a mandate in Rxing & the #StandardOfCare across the board.

Overnight, #PainPatients became a glaring liability for all doctors, & the consequences are harsh.
