While we all bask in the beauty that is:

Con -1061
Lab +536
LD +405
Green +241

Can we also take a moment to acknowledge that UKIP lost EVERY Councillor, while Reform UK came away with just 6 (gained 2)🤣

So we can absolutely REJECT any daft Right Wing notion that this result shows the Tory Party just need to swing even further Right, or that it’s because they haven’t “stopped the boats” or that they need to “scrap net zero”.

This result really, really does NOT show that!

2/7
REFUK averaged only 6% in all the places they stood, on a platform of scrapping net zero, fracking, reopening coal mines, more North sea Oil&Gas exploration.

Their culture wars, “stop the boats”, anti-Green ideas are simply not wanted.👍🏻

This is a wonderful juxtaposition👇🏼 Image

Labour has continued to make larger gains in areas with fewer university graduates, while the Conservatives are going back fastest in areas with more... #LocalElections2023 @SkyNews Image
@SkyNews This pattern maps onto the Brexit vote. Labour has enjoyed largest gains in wards that voted to Leave the EU in 2016, while the Conservatives have experienced biggest losses in areas that voted to Remain. Image
@SkyNews The Brexit realignment appears to be partially unwinding, while the Conservatives are not regaining ground with graduate, Remainers but instead continuing to lose support.

Today, in England, millions of voters make a choice in their #LocalElections2023. It’s a good time to share some new research that is related to two policy issues that will have touched many people over the last year: the #energycrisis & #crime.

In a nutshell, the paper shows that much of the widely reported surge in burglaries & anti-social behaviour could have been avoided, had the government provided more targeted energy price subsidies or had UK invested more in making homes more energy efficient. Last summer, ... ImageImageImageImage
I modelled the impact of the energy price shock down to the property level for millions of homes. More #energyinefficient homes would see a bigger increase. Part of this work was reported in @FT as an interactive story ig.ft.com/uk-energy-effi…. This set up a framework to study... Image

This experience and those of people around me means that I know just how important a safe, secure home is and know how unsettling for both children and parents short term rentals can be. I want to fight for good quality Council Housing that…

We have to prepare for the Locals, and, as usual it will all be last minute, eh, @TUSCoalition ? Listen - I am not just having a pop - I know how difficult it all is. 😊

But we need to think, and plan, ahead - because ALL our cohorts will be very short of dosh.

🧵
We are planning to put up 100+ candidates, and that will require £60,000.00, one way or another.

Hopefully, @RMTunion and @BFAWUOfficial will help underwrite this?
