I think a rerun of all my adVENT critters is in order. These irate little buggers do a good job of conveying the current mood #lockdown #lockdownuk

Let’s kick off with this one... which most perfectly captures my strop at what this virus prick is putting us through
This snail can’t believe the schools that were “safe” yesterday aren’t. Who could have predicted that?
This dog can’t believe he’s got to home school the kids again, while trying to deal with Bob from marketing and MF EXCEL

If schools are safe Johnson, then why won't you answer FOIs on infections, hospitalisation and deaths of workers?

The Tiers are a mess as well why is Redbridge not on the contingency list with higher rates than some on it?
None of the LAs in Berkshire which is in Tier 4 are on the contingency.

Readings hospital has ambulances queuing outside, yet primary schools open fully next week

Here's a Berkshire school, seriously think its safe for all students back next week. Image

It’s devastating that we’re at this point again: nobody wanted #Lockdown2. But 1 thing needs to be clear: there is no point in having #lockdownUK if the govt doesn’t spend that time reforming their privately-led and failing test and trace system @BBCNews bbc.co.uk/news/health-54…
Given the catastrophic failure of the government’s £10bn test and trace system, it’s astonishing that the Prime Minister did not mention HOW he intends to get us out of #Lockdown2. Wishful thinking about Christmas will not be enough. @IndependentSage
The reality is this virus has outpaced this govt’s political indecision-making. In last 6 wks when govt could have implemented a 2-week national lockdown (instead of 4+ weeks now), they wasted time with local Tiers123. Tiers have not reversed spread of virus or helped businesses.

#BREAKING: England to enter second national lockdown for a month from Thursday 5th November

Hear the details from @BorisJohnson here. #CovidUK #Lockdown2 #lockdown #coronavirus #BreakingNews #BorisJohnson
This is terrifying!

#BorisJohnson says even if the NHS had DOUBLE the capacity it still wouldn’t be enough

The NHS has 150,000 beds & with the Nightgale Hospitals there is even greater capacity

Its biggest weakness isn't space, it's staff shortages.

The reality of “Yo-Yo” #lockdown has been known about since May👇

Govt scientists have modelled for 2nd, 3rd, 4th waves etc. but this modelling was not shared publicly by the secretive #JointBiosecurityCentre running the UK #COVID19 response.

Sir #PatrickVallance advises for a #lockdownUK then increases the #COVID19 fear porn on the #BBC while building hopes of a vaccine by Christmas since he owns £600,000 in #GSK shares, the same GSK who was contracted by the government to make the same #vaccine. Follow the money? ImageImageImageImage
If GSK produces a successful #Covid19UK #vaccine it stands to make billions & Vallance’s shares could be expected to rocket, potentially making him yet more millions. Vallance was president of research & development at #GSK, #Britain’s biggest drug co.

dailymail.co.uk/debate/article…
Any oversight on this? "He will commit an initial 71 million pounds to the global vaccine partnership known as COVAX to secure purchase rights on 27 million doses, and 500 million to a separate COVAX initiative to help poorer countries access a vaccine."

Sweden thread.

Covid-19 is extremely complicated and there is a great deal of speculation and curiosity from the public of how to deal with it.
So many people and some scientists have touted Sweden as the solution.

On the face of it, it sound good.
No lockdown
People stay active
Less economic hit
More freedoms
However, when we get the graphs out, a different story has been practised.

Question for @marksedwill, UK Cabinet Secretary, has 77 brigade been tasked with identifying domestic social media content on #COVID-19 and targeting for manipulation and censorship?
1) @marksedwill now possesses extraordinary power within the UK government, serving as head of the Cabinet Office, National Security Advisor and Head of the Civil Service
2) As Cabinet Secretary he oversees the Rapid Response Unit which in turn directs 77Brigade, a UK *military* propaganda operation, which is active in countering what they claim to be ‘disinformation’

Excellent clear briefing from @DominicRaab and @uksciencechief on #Covid19UK and #lockdownuk
I feel much more assured about the #UKGoverment and @DHSCgovuk approach.

bbc.co.uk/news/uk-523137…
To those who want certain firm answers about when #lockdownuk ends: you can’t have it. These are uncertain times, and we have to learn to live with uncertainty. We should not lift the lockdown until we are confident that infection rates and mortality rates are coming well down.
We also need to see what happens as other countries relax their measures. Lifting #lockdown prematurely and having a large surge in hospital admissions and #ICU demand would be far worse than continuing the lockdown.
