#Italy #Lombardy #Coronavirus #RESTRICIONS

The Italian region of Lombardy has imposed new measures due to an increase in coronavirus infections. The regional government ordered on Friday evening, among other things,
that high schools introduce timetables in which the students take turns coming to class in person and being taught via the Internet. Similarly strict measures have been imposed in the Campania region, which is also badly affected. Schools were closed for two weeks.
Lombardy is again the region hardest hit by the coronavirus pandemic in Italy. More than 2000 infections were added every day. Hospitals are busy. It gets full in the intensive care units.

THREAD. A week ago I wrote this on the contribution that #migrants and #refugees make to the response to #coronavirus. Since then I have been collecting information on HOW this happens in different countries to learn for the future.

1/n Messaging from the UK government on how they will handle #COVID19 has been terrible. First, they miscommunicated their #herdimmunity strategy - which was flawed, in any case. Now they're saying their strategy was so flawed they're dropping it.
buzzfeed.com/alexwickham/co…
2/ #COVID19 does not behave like the flu. Flu-based models of harm mitigation don't fit it. As soon as #COVID19 gets over around 200 in a country, it moves too fast for only #herdimmunity strategies; cocooning AND building healthcare-for-surge are essential.

🇮🇹#Italia Superspreader #Cluster THREAD 1/7🏨

Drew a #dataviz diagram based on available data* about the #Lombardy cluster, which as of EOD 2/22/20 had 54 cases, including 2 in #Milano, & still an unknown Patient 0.

*plz excuse any possible errors
2/7 This cluster has developed quite rapidly in the town of #Lodi, near #Milan, in the #Lombardy region of #Italy.

The story has shifted several times on Patient 0, but somehow Patient 1 - a 38 y/o male in Lodi - contracted the #COVID19 virus.

When Patient 1 had symptoms...
3/7 ...he went to the #ER at the local Codogno #hospital multiple X, but was sent home with only #antibiotics (which don't work on #COVID19italia)

He then infected his pregnant wife & friends.

Of the 1st group of ~6, all were in serious condition.
