What an amazing Easter Sunday. The cherry blossoms are a gift that is an annual wonder. The weather was perfect. Today’s 8-miler was exactly what I needed.
In the midst of the run, as I stopped at the MLK Memorial and read the side of the statue, “Out of the mountain of despair, a stone of hope,” I looked around at the people, slowly but surely restarting a way of living that resembles life before the pandemic, I started to tear up.
This past year has been so difficult, for so many people in so many different ways. It feels good to feel optimism again. Thanks to everyone—from the front-line workers to the scientists who brought us the vaccines to family and friends—who got us from last March to this April.

Almost a decade back in DC and there’s still no better way for me to enjoy a random weekend afternoon than by just getting out there and running around to see what I’ll find on any given day. #lovingdc
The great thing about being an addict who knows they’re an addict is that you can find healthy things like running that, if you go overboard at times (as I always will), it really just means you went running for 75 minutes unexpectedly, nothing more!
[For new followers, I’m sober and I talk about it — and mental health — at times because it’s important for me to be honest about addiction and mental health, but also to reduce stigma and, even though I am constantly imperfect, also so I can be a resource for those who need it.]

After having told Henry that I was going on a run after we talked, I took my phone with me and took a bunch of pictures at monuments so that he can find on his map of DC where I ran! 😊 #lovingdc
I still love that I live in this city, a constant reminder of the challenges and faults of our nation, as well as the moments we choose to uphold as the key times we strived to be and do better.
I cheated to get in Jefferson, tbh. 🙃 (10K was PLENTY in the mid-day sun!)
