A snapshot. Hellenic Home Scarborough and Hillsdale not doing well at all.
Hellenic Scarborough = 9 residents + 30 staff sick (21 total resident deaths)
Hillsdale Oshawa = 9 residents + 33 staff sick (13 total resident deaths)

Ps. I was warning this government that #Omicron was becoming an issue for #LTC back in early December. There were 7 outbreaks by Dec 07 but the rate of growth was clear. I continued to track it ⬆️ over the last 3 weeks. They should’ve listened and acted sooner.

FYI: There we’re only 7 #LTCs in outbreak on Dec 07 when I started raising 🚩‘s.
🧵 So we’re learning 41 #LTC homes are in outbreak & general visits are being halted. Essential caregivers STILL allowed in (good!). They’ve increased boosters among staff + residents BUT only meagrely & the figures are still too low! (84% residents & 43% of staff have boosters).
STILL NO MANDATE FOR N95 USE AT ALL TIMES (only when caring for covid+ residents) & STILL NO TALK OF AIR QUALITY UPGRADES OR SURGE STAFFING PLAN.

1. At 69%, Canada has had the highest number of #COVID deaths in long-term care among G7 countries.
2. Decades of underinvestment + privatization has broken Canada’s #LTC system, leading to higher costs, lower staff to residents ratio & fewer resources.
As you should. 15 months was WASTED under @DrFullertonMPP. We need change now (actually yesterday but I’ll accept now). #LTC
Let’s remember: We have MORE then enough evidence. We just need the political will to ACT on said evidence.

2. Relying on hospitals to "save the day" wrt IPAC, staffing & resources is an impossible task if in a hot zone, when also trying to continue to provide acute & chronic care services. We already knew that #onhealth added 80+ wks to wait lists just from 1st few mos of lockdown 2/
