Awesome October 2021: A month of 31 half #marathons on 31 consecutive days- sharing my experience
1.Starting from 30th September, and ending on 31st October 2021, I completed 32 runs of 21.1 km or longer, with a total mileage of 817 km in 32 days (average of 25.5 km/day).
This included one Full marathon (42.2 km) on 30th October.
2.The purpose was to test my #endurance, and to see the #physical & #mental effects of long distance #running on 32 consecutive days. I present my observations here.
3. How difficult was it? In reality, it was not difficult. Once you get up and start the run, it is easy to complete. The most important is- you need 2.5 to 3.5 hours time to compete the distance. I could manage that in the mornings between 5 and 8:30 AM.

A beginner's guide to long-distance consistent running

I had no sports background & had never run before. Started #running 2 years back (6 Nov 20) at age 49. Ran 5454 km in 2021, and 3604 in 2022 until today. 9058 km in 643 days (Av 14.1 km/d). Includes 591 10k+ runs and 106 HM
Running resulted in several benefits- 22 kg #weightloss (95kg before to 73kg now). HbA1C: 4.8; normal cholesterol & BP, resting HR 45/min. Physically active and mostly pain-free despite having #ankylosingspondylitis Not on any medications.
I wish to answer some common queries, mostly based on my personal experiences (and some based on my medical knowledge)
1. Can everyone run long distances? Yes, if there is no significant medical illness, anyone can run. If you have a health issue, get clearance from your doctor.

Some things aren't meant to be, and today I wasn't meant to cross the channel.

Due to tide and sea conditions that were out of my ability range, I was struggling to maintain forward momentum. I only managed less than half a mile in the 3rd hour.
The extra effort caused a should strain that rapidly got worse and meant that I had to call the swim off.

There was nothing I could do. It wasn't what I wanted or planned, but part of the resilience it takes to complete this triathlon, is taking every challenge on the chin.
Despite this set back, I will be continuing onto the next stage and making my way to Land's End, ready to start cycling towards John O'Groats on the 28th.

🚨BIG NEWS🚨

I'm far too excited to start, which is why I'm bringing the start of my challenge forward.

As of 09:30 tomorrow, I'll be setting off from Dover and swimming 22 miles across the Channel to Calais. Image
From there, I'll travel to Land's End for a bit of rest, before leaving on the 28th to cycle 1,060 miles to John O' Groats.

Not one to make it easy for myself, I'll be stopping at Pen Y Pas to climb Snowdon via the Pyg track, and then cycling on to Scafell Pike.
I'll then do one last stretch on the bike to John O’Groats, before travelling via road to Ben Nevis, climbing to the summit of the highest mountain in the UK. After descending, I'll complete one final marathon of 26 miles, crossing the finish line at Spean Bridge in early August.

(2/21) Manuscripts have been digitized in large numbers. Technology has become easy to learn. It is time to capitalize on these opportunities and accept ‘digital manuscript studies’ as a normal, yes necessary, part of our work. This book is a great start for that!
(3/21) It introduces a conceptual and practical toolbox for working with digitized manuscripts, starting with establishing a vocabulary to talk about the (quality of the) digital materiality of them and ending with explaining Python and OpenCV to do automated image analysis.
