World health organization states postnatal care is defined as care given to the mother & her newborn baby immediately after the birth of the placenta and for the first 6 weeks of life. The majority of maternal & neonatal deaths occur during childbirth and the postpartum period.
"The World Health Organisation recommendations (published this year!) say that women and birthing people should remain in a healthcare setting for at least 24 hours after an uncomplicated birth, and surveys show that most want to stay in 2-3 days. "
