Some people think I'm being inflammatory when I say the gov't isn't moving on #MaritalRape because it doesn't care about women and both includes and relies on rapists for support. See today's @Tribune242 headline about a RAPIST MP for a horrible reality check.
News story after news story about gender-based violence against women, and the Government of The Bahamas REFUSES to take action. A few MPs or senators may make a useless statement about their sadness or shock and the need to do something, but nothing more. No bills tabled.
Years of work have resulted in development of plans and policies, draft bills, and programs. Administration after administration, and NOTHING.
It's important to know that the lack of action is not due to lack of information or solutions. It is lack of political will. Inaction.

I recently came across a POCSO case where 17 yrs 10 months old daughter accused her father and uncle of molestation. Defendants were jailed immediately, lost case in lower court .
Girl had a love affair that family objected to and she screwed them.

Until 1997 German men could legally rape their wives. Furthermore the law held that women had to pretend to enjoy #maritalrape our be found at fault in case of divorce. Here's the reasoning of the Federal Court of "Justice" from 1966 translated to English:
"The woman does not fulfill her conjugal duties simply by letting the intercourse take place impassively. If, by reason of her disposition or for other reasons (...) she is unable to find satisfaction in conjugal intercourse, marriage nevertheless requires of her a concession..
