Hi @AHS_media @AHS_YYCZone;when I emailed patient services about my serious concerns related to the removal of continuous masking in healthcare facilities the last thing I needed was for your announcement I had obviously already read to be copy/pasted. Not only have you provided
ZERO data to support this reckless decision, you didn’t address my concerns AT ALL!!My guess is,you can’t. Because there is NO justification for this decision. Making the decision to make healthcare less safe for patients is unacceptable. And those concerned deserve accountability
from you. 👇NOT ACCEPTABLE!!! Image

COVID, Flu and RSV can remain infectious in the air for hours, so we must remain aware of this. The highest risk is when people face each other, but also when people follow each other single file or after an infected person left a poorly ventilated room.

The single most important thing an individual can do to protect themselves and others is wear a quality N-95 mask properly. ⬅️

Make sure it's tight against your face & around your nose.

@JuliaHB1 I know you ignore science, in order to drive your libertarian ideology, but this one chart really should show why caution for children is required, not a free for all for a level 3 biohazard! normal brain is on the left... scans of 7 kids brains >4 weeks after infection

I accuse this man of being an evil, lying, sociopathic eugenicist.

Masks work, if you don't believe me, there's HUGE amounts of evidence in the following threads
#MasksWork #Covid_19 #COVID19 #CovidIsNotOver #COVIDisAirborne #MasksInSchools #ProtectOurKids

my threads contain multiple, peer reviewed, PUBLISHED, scientific articles & evidence on the harms that COVID causes, most of which are invisible initially...

I didn't think I'd spend my Easter morning educating hospital personnel about #AirborneTransmission but that's what happened. Here's a summary of the crack-of-dawn 💩 show at a hospital.

/1
Approached screener. I was told to put on sloppy mask. Said I will put over #n95. Not asked any screening Qs. Noticed her mask only covering mouth. I said, "Your mask has slipped down." She points to the plexiglass. I proceed to advise her that #COVIDisAirborne.

I mean there is literally only one other guy that I can see, but aren't they told IT'S IN THE AIR?

I split, go to my destination, & an admin appears MASKLESS. She proceeds to put on a mask under her chin, then asks me questions, unfazed. WTAF.

What to do when covid isolating?#MaskRAT 😷 🐀

This illustrates:
1) importance of masking for source control
2) overdispersed nature of transmission

Top mask worn for ~45 min by person with strong RAT nasal swab, mask tested within 5 min, inside of mask was dry.

1/4
In this N of 2 experiment, the strength of RAT result on standard throat/nasal swab correlated with #MaskRAT result.

The bottom person (me) had multiple negative #MaskRATs and barely detectable nasal/throat RAT for 1 day (day 5)

2/4
An unfortunate finding during my RAT experiments:
My symptomatic children never tested positive on a RAT and I never tested positive on the RATs available in ON.

Without access to PCR testing for kids and case reporting in schools, we’re intentionally flying blind.

HUGE—Federal judge rules in favor of 12 immunocompromised students claiming Virginia's new mask-optional law violates their rights under Americans with Disabilities Act. Ruling now now applies where the 12 kids attend—their schools can require masks again.
wtop.com/virginia/2022/…
2) this is huge. But it’s a preliminary injunction that temporarily protects these 12 kids. Let’s hope the ultimate ruling protects all kids!
3) The students in the lawsuit have conditions including cancer, cystic fibrosis, moderate-to-severe asthma, Down syndrome, lung conditions and weakened immune systems. Fairfax County, the state’s largest school system, had asked to be heard in support of the lawsuit.

I have just finished watching the #StateOfTheUnion address, and it became clear about half way through why the mask guidance was changed by @CDCgov.

Beautiful speech, but also very sad in that one respect.
There is a “War on COVID-19”. It’s still raging on, but today there needed to be some sign that America has gained some ground in that war.

Sadly, that ground gained was the loss of mask guidance. Seen as a symbol of the fight, the shield was discarded.
There were many other things that I really liked about the planned COVID-19 response. The access to testing and medication. The access to respirators for vulnerable people… vaccination efforts, globally.

Hi leaders across the country. Is this thing on? Is anyone listening? This messaging "everyone's going to get it" isn't helping. We need mask requirements when indoors, vaccine requirements for engaging in society, like going into restaurants. We need help. Please do something.
We need to reimplement risk mitigation strategies. Capacity limits. Social distancing. We know SO MUCH more than we did a year ago. Why are we not doing what we know works?! These restrictions don't need to be long term. They can be short lived once we get things under control.
We aren't asking for things to be shut down altogether. We know #VaccinesWork, #BoostersWork, #MasksWork. We also know what exponential spread looks like, and what it does to hospitals and healthcare workers.

I haven’t been posting much original content lately bc, tbh, I’ve been a bit burned out. And school is about to start. But I’ve been seeing some wacky posts and theories lately, some from “respected” HCW who, I personally feel, have become more contrarian for personal gain.
1. Regarding whether masks work…I can’t believe we are still having this discussion. Surgeons have used masks for years for infection control. And re:#COVID19 the data is there. For those calling for placebo controlled trials, those would be unethical.

science.sciencemag.org/content/372/65…
2. About kids and masks. Ppl r worried kids development will be stunted. I argue not being able to attend in person school when #covid19 spreads bc kids aren’t masking is a bigger developmental issue. We know #masksWork to keep kids in school.

Who are you trying to kid @Douglas4Moray?

The public health data says the exact opposite. I’m starting to think that to be a current #Conservative MP one must promise to ignore every single bit of scientific evidence that says #COVIDisAirborne!

@ScotTories @Conservatives
THE SCIENCE IS NOT COMPLICATED & shows clearly that #VentilationMatters & #MasksWork to⬇️ transmission in crowded indoor areas.

Schools across the UK have been more or less #COVID MITIGATION-FREE zones throughout the pandemic.
Children, staff & families have been badly failed.
#Tory desperation for #Freedom is selfish, reckless & unscientific.

Please listen to public health experts, medics & parents who understand the need for ongoing protections for the school community in Aug/Sept.

Ignore pressure from @UsScotland et al & JUST FOLLOW THE SCIENCE!

Just when I had the #COVID19 #quarantine guidelines down pat...the @CDCgov goes and changes them!

Here’s the quick and dirty on the new guidelines (in 10 seconds) 👇🏼

Read thread for more info.

@OHPediatricians #tweetiatrician @AmerAcadPeds
Why change?
Per @CDCgov the change was an effort to reduce economic hardship for those unable to work during quarantine as well as reduce burden on #PublicHealth system.

#quarantineguidelines #quarantine #COVID19
To be CLEAR: the recommendation remains that a 14 day #quarantine after #COVID19 exposure is still the safest option.

ALSO - local #PublicHealth authorities have the FINAL SAY in when quarantine can end.

I have a question for #MedTwitter #epitwitter #NurseTwitter #IDtwitter #sciencetwitter #EnviroHealthMatters: Should we have a mask mandate now in all indoor public places and when near others or likely to be near others?
@DrRobDavidson did a poll asking if there should be any medical exemptions for mask wearing. 93% of the 890 respondents said No.
Mask wearing should not be controversial. The evidence is overwhelming that #MasksWork. I am a proud signer of @IMPACT4HC petition #AmericaMaskUp change.org/AmericaMaskUp

What does a mask do? Blocks respiratory droplets coming from your mouth and throat.

Two simple demos:

First, I sneezed, sang, talked & coughed toward an agar culture plate with or without a mask. Bacteria colonies show where droplets landed. A mask blocks virtually all of them. ImageImage
What about keeping your distance?

Second demo: I set open bacteria culture plates 2, 4 and 6 feet away and coughed (hard) for ~15s. I repeated this without a mask.

As seen by number of bacteria colonies, droplets mostly landed <6 ft, but a mask blocked nearly all of them. ImageImage
I'm aware that this simple (n=1) demo isn't how you culture viruses or model spread of SARS-CoV-2.

But colonies of normal bacteria from my mouth/throat show the spread of large respiratory droplets, like the kind we think mostly spread #COVID19, and how a mask can block them! ImageImage
