As we transition into fall, cases are again on the rise in Washington.
Spending time indoors with people outside your household is just too risky right now. We all need to commit to having fewer, shorter, safer interactions – especially as the weather keeps us inside more often.

It is unsafe for most of our students and educators to return to school in person.

We know we cannot let COVID-19 compound the inequities in our K-12 system.
To help, the state will spend $8.8 million in CARES Act funding to help low income families buy internet plans and address other tech needs.

Social gatherings in Phase 3 counties will now be restricted to 10 people a week outside your household.
It’s just too dangerous to be gathering in large groups right now, even in Phase 3 counties. 2/6

People in Phase 2 and Modified Phase 1 counties cannot have social gatherings with more than 5 people a week.

I’m extending the pause on our phased approach to reopening through at least July 28th.
COVID-19 is continuing to spread in Washington. Counties will pause in their current phases until it's responsible to resume reopening.

There is some good news. In Yakima, only 35% of people were wearing face coverings at the end of May. That’s risen to 95%.
Cases, infection rates and hospitalizations all seem to be declining in that county. It’s early, but it’s a good sign masks are helping beat this virus.

Cases are on the rise across the state. Because of this, I’m pausing counties from advancing to the next phase of our Safe Start Plan for 2 weeks.
Wearing a mask shows you care about the people around you.

When in public, it’s always a good idea to wear a facial covering. It’s now required if you are:

➡️ Outdoors in public when you can’t maintain good physical distancing
