A very plausible 2020 scenario Dems have to take seriously:

Trump loses popular vote by ~5 million as Dems narrow deficit in TX, expand lead in CA & flip MI/PA blue

BUT Trump narrowly holds onto AZ, FL, NC & WI and wins reelection by a single electoral vote.
A couple more thoughts on this:

1) Of the states above, AZ & WI strike me as the likeliest to be decisive “tipping point” states
2) FL is trending poorly for Dems & AZ/NC likely to be riper targets
3) If it comes down to one vote, Omaha’s #NE02 more winnable for Dems than #ME02
Here's more or less what this nightmare scenario for Dems looks like in the @FiveThirtyEight Swing-o-Matic (replace Clinton's name w/ whatever Dem you wish): 53eig.ht/21wa4Aw#NCEW:0…

I'd like to send my big THANK YOU out to everyone today.

I left last week to the men to celebrate or lick wounds.

I started with 2 goals, both accomplished:

✔️ Incumbent no longer making law

✔️ Find a way to make campaigning not suck while getting $ OUT

#mepolitics #TWPSB
Quick recap of what we accomplished.

Final 1st round vote count looks like 16,260; 5.73% of the votes.

I spent <$800 of my own money, accepted no campaign contributions (probably <$750, I rounded up on stamps - I'd rather estimate high).

<$.05 per vote.

#TWPSB #mepolitics
We problem-solved to fix all the things we don't like about politics.

🚫NO CAMPAIGN SIGNS!
Bad for the planet, expensive and annoying.

👊Instead we made our own or had signs that could be downloaded, printed on a regular printer, taped in windows, then recycled.

🚨MY MASTER THREAD of #Midterm2018 results analysis, including an array of data dives. Will the country chose to repudiate president Trump? Health care instead of the wall? RT & strap in, folks, tonight could be a wild ride. We get the first batch of results at around 6 PM ET.
Turnout has looked unprecedented for weeks now. Indications today that it could even beat these lofty expectations. At this point I think I’d buy for pickups in Tossup sub/urban seats like #TX07 #TX32 and #TX26, but sell in more rural districts that have looked like reaches.

Why the slight shift? Let me try to explain what we've observed move post-Labor Day. There are basically 3 large buckets of House races we're watching...
1) Vulnerable Rs in upscale, suburban, Clinton-won "Whole Foods" districts like #VA10 Comstock, #KS03 Yoder, #CO06 Coffman, #MN03 Paulsen, #CA45 Walters, #NJ07 Lance, etc. These Rs are mostly trailing & their numbers haven't gotten any better recently.
2) Competitive races in redder, working-class districts that Trump won by double digits in '16, such as #IL12 Bost, #MN08 OPEN, #NY22 Tenney, #WV03 OPEN, etc. Overall, things have slightly improved in "Trump zones" for Rs, w/ notable exceptions in districts like #KS02 & #ME02.

Someone should really tell Republicans to buy their domain names before someone else does. 🤣

Here are all the ways #ME02 @BrucePoliquin has lied about his stance on saving the ACA, including coverage for pre-existing conditions. Let's have a look. 1/

brucepoliquin.com/health-care
Bruce knows that Mainers’ number one priority these days is access to healthcare. That’s why he repeatedly voted to eliminate the Affordable Care Act, thus stripping healthcare directly from thousands of Mainers and making it unaffordable for tens of thousands more. 2/
Less sophisticated minds might not understand such counter-intuitive genius, but Bruce had a plan all along. He wants Mainers to care as much as he does about health care policy, and what better way to make someone care very deeply than to take away their healthcare?? 3/

🚨“CONGRESSIONAL LEADERSHIP FUND” THREAD🚨

As Green Day once sang: “Do You Know Your Enemy?”

If not, we need to have a talk about the Congressional Leadership Fund (@CLFSuperPac).

THEY ARE THE ENEMY of the 2018 Midterm Elections and they WILL cost us seats IF we let them.
The CLF is a right-wing SuperPAC spearheaded by Paul Ryan. It’s goal is to lie about and smear as many Democratic candidates as possible.

They have raised more than $100Million from billionaires looking to keep the GOP in power.
opensecrets.org/news/2018/08/w…
Back in May, Paul Ryan personally solicited billionaire Sheldon Adelson for $30Million for the CLF. He made the pitch and then walked out of the room so that someone else could make the actual “ask”, in order to avoid campaign finance violations.

Hey #mepolitcs...Since I'm stuck for a bit, want to go with me on a journey?

Let's picture what the job and future elections looks like if I win.

Aka, what can you expect from a rep who does not perma-campaign.

#TWPSB
In this hypo traditional campaigning requires around $1+ million per year to get and/or keep a house seat (plus all the other energy you have to expend to keep the peanut gallery PACs happy).

Let's assume they're at it 5 days/week and take a couple weeks off per year.

#TWPSB
$1,000,000/50/5 = $4,000/day

Whew, that's a fundraising nut!

How much energy do you think it takes to rake in an extra $500 each work hour while doing important stuff like making laws?

That's more per hour than you make for the actual job. How would you prioritize?

Hey #mepolitics, I found my inspiration for a #SundaySoapbox a day late. It's a holiday, right?

I had someone compare me to @BarackObama last week and minutes ago I had someone reference hope and change.

Let's talk about hope and change.
Change I'm all for, we'll get back to that.

Let's start with hope.

I have to confess, I don't love hope.

Hope...can be kind of a dick.

It teases you.

You *think* something maybe, kind of can happen.

If you just hope enough it'll be right?

MUST. HOPE.

#SundaySoapbox
It's probably my family law background.

Too many really lovely people hoping for their partner, child, parent, etc to be the person they could be if that partner, child, parent, etc if they only changed, which of course they have no desire and/or resources to do.

Paul Ryan’s super PAC is under fire for weaponizing @SpanbergerVA07’s private personal records from her service in the CIA and law enforcement.

She’s not the only candidate that needs your help facing lies from that same super PAC.

Let’s take a look👀
cnbc.com/2018/08/31/dem…
In Colorado, Paul Ryan’s super PAC came after @JasonCrowCO6.

REALITY CHECK: “Republicans know Jason Crow’s service with and for veterans is an asset, so they’re attacking it. If this is the best they’ve got, shame on them.”

In Maine, Paul Ryan’s super PAC came after @golden4congress.

His super PAC’s ad zooms in on Golden’s tattoo to “tie it to his politics” even though his tattoo pays tribute to his tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Hey @TwitterGov, @TwitterSupport, @jack -

I've been ballot-qualified for over 45 days, 12 days longer than this Maine candidate, with more than 34x the followers, much more content to twitter, and with at least as good of odds to win as Mark.

Where is my candidate designation?
So we clearly aren't going for chronological order. Huh. 😐
You know what's super weird #mepolitics? The two GOP challengers, both total long shots, have gotten their tags.

The Independents in our federal races (who qualified before anyone), not.

The @MaineDems challengers, also not.

Why @twitter, @TwitterGov, @jack, @TwitterSupport?

Want to see what's in it?

#Readthebill #mepolitics #TWPSB #bond2018
Seems innocuous. It's a short bill.

Promotes education? Sounds good
Clarify? Well, seems reasonable
Notice and cure? That seems like a prudent course

Why are people all upset?
Our first hint that something more nefarious is afoot comes pretty swiftly. Reform is a strong word for the title given the description. Adding a little education, clarification and a notice/cure seems fairly wimpy to earn a bold word like "reform".

...want to see what's in it?

I'll only have time to read one tonight, so let's do H. Res. 724

#ReadtheBill #mepolitics #ME02 #Bond2018 #TWPSB
Disclaimer, I do not work in employment law. Were I actually voting on this bill, I would phone a friend(s) to make sure I am not missing anything. First page is nothing sensational - title, sponsors, etc.
P. 2 - There are a lot of references throughout that reference the Congressional Accountability Act of 1995, without appropriate citations or specificity. A bit sloppy to me. A good use of staff is looking up references for efficient bill reading, it shouldn't take this long.
