A couple of thoughts on the Leverhulme/Cambridge research on 'conspiracy theories' reported in the Guardian today. It has already attracted hoots of derision on Twitter, for good reason.

This is not a conspiracy theory. It is an accurate description of social reality, albeit given a depressive twist (note the "always" and the "anyway").

It is possible to agree with the idea that "the few" dominate public business while holding onto the hope that it might be possible to empower "the many" somehow. Indeed, there is a political party that promotes exactly this idea.

This proposal must surely win Labour the firm support of everyone who wants to do useful work in journalism, and everyone who is serious about challenging the many varieties of corruption in British public life.

Just sent @L__Macfarlane a draft of a #mediademocracy paper that @ta_mills and I have been working on for the @openDemocracy / @DemocracyCollab series on policy options for a reforming Labour administration.
There are 15 papers in all, ranging from banking and economic democracy to race and migration and constitutional reform. They will be available as printed pamphlets at the @TWT_NOW festival next month.
The hope is that they help the Labour movement and the wider society to start imagining now what a post-May, post-bankocratic Britain will look like. If you'd like to learn more about the series, my DMs are open.
