Just how precious of a gift is the mentoring process for the mentor?

It’s PRICELESS .

It's also:
💪Powerful
💕Healing
📈Change-making

In short, #mentoring is THE BEST.

We hear about how mentoring is a bidirectional process.
This is not hyperbole. It’s very much been my experience.

#Mentoring students gives as much, if not more, to the mentor, as it gives the mentee.

The students I get to mentor inject me with life.

#medicalstudents
In a system that often can make you question your worth, contribution, ability, and unique talents, being able to have powerful and meaningful conversations with learners is such a precious gift.

Successful #publishing cover letters – a thread.

I’ve had several requests for the letter I offered to share the other day. I've now found it and, instead of writing lots of PMs, I think it's best if I just share it here with everyone. #publishinghopefuls #workinpublishing
There’s nothing more infuriating than not getting the call and not knowing why. Often it's down to stronger CVs competing with yours, but the letter can also play a part. I’ve been lucky enough to have people give me tips when I started out so I'm sharing them here...
...together with what I’m now looking for in the letters I receive. It’s not exhaustive and there are other ways to do things. But it gives an idea.

1) Keep it short. An A4 max is ideal.

Do you know that many recent graduates with exceptional grades may still struggle to obtain entry-level jobs because of a lack of portfolios full of the right skill sets and lack marketable abilities?

#CareerTalkWithDrAddy
Recently, I started my mentorship program and 90% of the participants have clear concerns about how to map out a successful career from their degrees. In other cases, they have questions on how to get successful careers out of their current jobs...

#CareerTalkWithDrAddy
...as they don’t feel fulfilled or don’t think they are making a good living.

During my visit to Toronto in August, I sat with an old friend from my University of Saskatchewan days who literarily burst into tears while explaining the fears of her degrees not being enough...

A couple of weeks ago I was invited by @AnnalsATS to write an editorial for a paper. I loved the topic so I quickly agreed and started ordering my thoughts. It was a quick turnaround- 2 weeks, so I had to get moving.

I worked diligently on the draft and invited @vitaincerta to co-author- she is smart as a whip and a terrific writer and I knew she would really help to shape a well-written piece. She agreed and I sent her my #ShittyFirstDraft.

This afternoon at #SPSA2018, I was on a #CWC panel about mentoring across genders. Below, I'll include my comments from the panel. In it, I speak candidly about my #gradschool #metoo moment. @SPSAwomen @SPSAwomen 1/n
In many ways, graduate school is designed to make students feel like impostors. It's a common experience, but it can be particularly damaging for members of groups that have traditionally lacked access to the higher ranks of our discipline. I’ll focus on women here. 2/n
For these folks, the feeling that they have “faked” or “charmed” their way into graduate school (or the #tenuretrack, etc.) can override objective evidence of their own diligence, intellect, and merit. 3/n
