Media outlets and journalists like @globeandmail @EvanDyerCBC @TerryGlavin @jonkay @ChantalHbert have only strengthened the findings of NI #MMIWG #MMIWG2S report and the TRC that media plays an immense role in shaping negative stereotypes of Indigenous people esp women/2S ppl
To debate Inquiry's finding of genocide is to actively undermine the legitimacy of the Inquiry. Most Canadians won't read whole Inquiry report and, as journalists, u have power to make ethical choices: to comment on substantive nature of findings or fuel clickbait controversy
It is undebatable that Inquiry finds Canada in violation of SEVEN international human rights instruments; violation of Charter; violation of treaty obligations; violation of inherent Indigenous rights; violation of domestic human rights Codes. Why not name and emphasize that?

25. Right to culture: Attacks on culture thru residential schools & ixties Scoop, disenfranchisement thru Indian Act, child welfare. For Inuit, added impacts of mass centralization & relocation. For 2SLGBTQQIA ppl, there is shift from the value of gender-diverse people.
26. Canada uses child welfare to oppress, displace, disrupt & destroy Indigenous families and nations. It is genocidal tool that violates Indigenous rights to govern, is violence against families, disrupts connections, and is linked to violence against Indigenous women & girls

1. In contrast to much previous research that positions Indigenous women as “victims” in need of protection or saving, or that positions their experiences as “less than” knowledge gathered according to Western research methods, the Inquiry centers these voices and wisdom.
