It’s official: today, surrounded by my loving and supportive family, I filed to run for U.S. Senate in the great state of Mississippi. #MSSen
Mississippi is entering a new decade and I want it to be a decade of promise - with people having access to affordable healthcare, where public education is of the highest quality, where teachers can afford to teach, where college graduates can remain here to pursue their dreams.
I want to be a partner in building the ‘New Mississippi,’ devoid of all the old symbols that have divided us for so long and have often driven people to look away from Mississippi.

On Aug. 3, Donald Trump literally said he wanted to "get rid of judges"—not over sexual assault allegations—but who follow due process with immigration cases, thus slowing his policies.

Sen. @CindyHydeSmith did not express concerns about "judicial independence" then. #MSSen

Last year, Cindy Hyde-Smith gave her first speech on the Senate floor and called it her "duty as the first woman to represent Mississippi in Congress to speak in strong support of Judge Brett Kavanaugh" and against the women who accused him of rape.

Hyde-Smith lost Warren County in the first round, and trails Espy there now. But Wicker carried it earlier this month when he won y 20 points. Lucky for her, she doesn't need to carry it. Though she should want to.
Tidbit: Cindy Hyde-Smith is currently at 63.8% in Lawrence County, just under Roger Wicker (65.3%). #MSSen
Pike County, which is a GOP county, early dump showed 210 votes for Espy and only 3 votes for Hyde-Smith.

Days ago #SFGiants bade farewell to #Forever44 #WillieMcCovey who rose from segregated South to @mlb Hall of Famer.
Today it’s gut-wrenching to see the team I love & serve as a volunteer NOT get that this #MSsen debacle is bigger than politics or baseball - it’s about humanity.
But we are about #ReclaimingOurTeam — the team of Mays. McCovey, and so many other @sfgiants greats; the team@of the Giants Community Fund and the millions of dollars that go into youth sports as well as violence prevention, health care and education; the team of SF values.
As a @SFGiants fan I celebrate all the good works on and off the field. As a volunteer I have raised my girl to be a #JrGiants booster. And I’ve told her that my calling out racism today could mean me getting booted off the board. But overcoming racism matters more than my title.

Seeing a number of commentaries like this from @jbouie about the Republican candidate for Senate, facing a runoff next Tuesday. I’m not a Mississippian. I know more about the history of Mississippians in Congress than I do anything else about the state. About that, though....
2. Mississippi is a poor state. It’s relied on its Congressional delegation to support its economy by directing various kinds of federal spending there over the years. Its Senators in particular have often punched way above their state’s weight in Washington.
3. James Eastland. John Stennis. Thad Cochran. Trent Lott. Like these guys or not, they were Senators to reckon with: smart & experienced, able to get good deals for their state because they could work Washington. #MSSen

Happy #MSSEN runoff time, folk! Consider this thread over the next 4 days--Cindy Hyde-Smith v. Mike Espy. Here's what I can tell you: There's a heck of an important conversation taking place in this great state right now. Really glad to be here. If I may, welcome to Mississippi:
