TW: #MAiD Suicide Ableism

More about yesterday’s thread: Through tears and anger I’ve spent 3 week frozen for hours everyday trying and failing to write back a “friend” to explain why the mere suggestion that my suicide, assisted or otherwise, is acceptable bc I’m disabled is…
Dehumanizing and coercive in and of itself. It’s been incredibly painful and I’m personally really struggling. But I want to make a broader point. This pro-MAiD advocate isn’t just a “friend” who I’ve trusted with my heart and what’s going on my health before I knew this abt her.
I am also somewhat dependent on her. She’s the only local friend who has stuck around through Covid precautions and me being disabled due to pain. She does a lot of things for me with her car that I’m not sure what I’m going to do without. And THIS…

🌈Hi friends! Here's a quick refresher on some #ableist terms to stop using!

⏰REMINDER: It's okay if you're still working on removing these from your every day vocabulary - so am I! As long as we're trying♥️ #DisabilityTwitter #DisabledTwitter Blue square graphic, white ...
Here's some common phrases that perpetuate #ableism... Especially because these terms/words are commonly used as "disses" or something negative.

It can feel extremely invalidating for #disabled folks to have their illnesses talked about so lightly, especially from folks who don't have those illnesses.

I have been writing here and there at the new story. It is called It starts at the end, and it is a story that starts at the end and ends at the beginning. I do not know how far I will get and if I ever get to finish it, my body being fickle as fuck, but the idea is firmly one of
the things keeping my mind most busy. And I think I understand why.

As I said before, we are not all going through the same pandemic. This is not to undermine any type of suffering other people experienced under the instability of the covid policies and the lack of proper
political guidance and help. But existing power structures very much impacted how we experienced the pandemic differently, and in this case a lot of burden ended up on disabled people.

Being in years-long isolation is not the same as going from lockdown to lockdown. And dealing

It’s difficult to imagine how this anti-science anti-vax rally could have come to be if hydroxychloroquine disinformation hadn’t kicked off some these #DisinformationDoctors careers — at the expense of chronically ill people. #DisabledPeopleToldYou #MyDisabledLifeIsWorthy
Important thread anticipating the Jan 23 Super Not Anti-Vax Rally:
this weird little rally is tomorrow 🙄 who’s tryna watch a livestream with mimosas with me…?

How many times do I have to scream “they always were”? Hydroxychloroquine disinfo has incredible staying power, to the extent that I *continue* to hear abt HCQ supply issues from fellow rheumatic patients. #DisabledPeopleToldYou this was never in the past. #MyDisabledLifeIsWorthy
It is painful to me how accounts with major followings (not necessarily OP, am speaking generally) repeatedly write-off or joke about hydroxychloroquine when the next shiny covid boondoggle makes headlines, & then become shocked when its ongoing usage inevitably resurfaces.
Meanwhile autoimmune people continue to bear the stigma that our essential daily medication has garnered on top of the physical consequences supply issues cause. #MyDisabledLifeIsWorthy of sustained attention to this ongoing problem. #HighRiskCOVID19

[COVID and schizophrenia thread 🧵]

did you know that the strongest risk factor for dying of COVID is age? probably.

did you know the SECOND strongest risk factor is schizophrenia diagnosis? let's talk eugenics bc i have schizo & covid and i don't want to die out here.
2/ JAMA did a 7k patient study and CONFIRMING another study that found obvious association between schizo and fatal covid prognosis.

interestingly, other mood disorders did NOT show this correlation, including other SMI class illnesses.
how is covid "detecting" schizophrenia?
3/ JAMA reports if you're schizophrenic, your odds are 2.7x greater for dying of COVID than any other risk factor except age. other studies (re: Frontiers) reports 3x higher in a separate test group.

so i am THREE TIMES more likely than you to die of covid, and i'm turning 30.

To everyone saying "it's not eugenics" or "she didn't mean it THAT way":

It's really quite simple. She's the fucking CDC director. If one of the most important and powerful science communicators on the planet meant something else, she could say that.
If she meant something else, she could communicate that, in so many different ways- tweets, statements, interviews..... She has a lot of options.
If she meant something else, she should have the training to understand why the actual words out of her mouth would make some people feel dehumanized, and/or terrified, and/or hurt, and/or angry, etc. And then choose better words.

In remarks reminiscent of the darkest days of the #eugenics movement, @CDCDirector said that the fact that #COVID19 predominantly kills people who are “unwell to begin with” is “encouraging.”

"The overwhelming number of deaths, over 75 percent, occurred in people who had at least four comorbidities," Walensky said, "so really these are people who are unwell to begin with, and yes, really encouraging news in the context of Omicron."

Walensky’s comments were condemned by doctors, scientists and advocates for the disabled as an embrace of eugenics by the Biden administration.

Dear @CDCDirector

I am writing on behalf of Disability Rights Education & Defense Fund (DREDF). We are a leading national civil rights law and policy center directed by disabled people and parents who have children with disabilities.
During an interview on Good Morning America on January 7, 2022, in response to a question about the encouraging findings from a study showing that severe COVID and death were rare among people who are fully vaccinated, you responded:
“The overwhelming number of deaths, over 75%, occurred in people who had at least four comorbidities, so really these are people who were unwell to begin with, and yes really encouraging news in the context of Omicron,

Because my health and disability status should not make my inherent worthiness as a human being constantly up for “debate.” #MyDisabledLifeIsWorthy
I never thought I’d share this publicly & frankly I might delete:

When my ex (who I was with for 10 years) broke up with me, the underlying reason why was cuz we weren’t a “normal couple” anymore. I.e. he saw my somewhat newly chronically ill/disabled self as not normal.
That was the first time I deeply understood in a gut-wrenching, beyond heartbreaking way that even the people who you thought loved & cared about you the most will dehumanize you and deem you “disposable.”

I wasn’t able-bodied anymore, therefore I was tossed aside.
