Since seeing my project used by a foreign military, I've been trying to imagine an #opensource / @OpenSourceOrg license that's congruent with Kantian Ethics

So far, I haven't succeeded.

Take a seat, this is a long thread...…
When I started my first open source project in 2003 (a few tools to automate #mysql servers) I thought #opensource was universalizable.

It's not.

The OSI definition grounds in an assumption that unrestricted use of software is ethically pure and therefore above reproach
Kant's famous Maxim, known as the categorical imperative, states that any maximum must be universally applicable for it be a valid ethical framework.

The trivial example is honesty vs lying.

So, my thread on how to choose databases for your web apps starts in 20 minutes time. Hope y'all are ready ?However, this time i would love it to be an interactive session where we can learn from each other about database preferences for specific web apps and the use case
This is what we want to talk about today. Take a really good look at the image below. Study it well. Also notice the words at the 3 vertexes of the triangle. CONSISTENCY, AVAILABILITY & PARTITION-TOLERANCE (Big English - but fear not, we shall demystify all and it'll all be easy)
If we also look at the image in the previous tweet on this thread we can see some popular databases placed at certain sides of the triangle. It is important to note also the positioning of some of a particular point on each side. We shall discuss this in more detail soon. #thread

Hey all, I’m doing a weekly twitter standup, mostly for myself. But if you or anyone else would like to join, feel free to ping me. I’m thinking a weekly basis won’t be too time consuming. Pick a day of the week, and I’ll @ you to remind you. #weeklytwitterstandup
Did last week:
✅ finally built script to track usage of my servers. It’s a python script uploaded to AWS lambda. The script pings my half-dozen servers for data usage and writes the data onto 1) a MySQL server hosted on AWS RDS, 2) BigQuery database, and 3) google sheets
✅ built a dashboard on server usage data using Tableau public. I now have the dashboard scrolling on my Life Flips app.

Struggled with configuring MySQL on Mac for a total of 5 hours (on two separate days).

1. Installed MySQL 8 via homebrew. Upon accessing a newly created database via Sequel Pro, the program crashes. Something like an NSInvalidArgumentException error occurred.
2. Decided to rolback to MySQL 5.x as I guessed that my Sequel Pro does not support the latest MySQL version yet.
3. Wiped MySQL from the Mac by following this guide:…
4. Downloaded a MySQL 5.7 dmg installer and installed
5. I was informed by the installation wizard that there is a temporary password provided but I stubbornly ignored the notice.
6. My then problem was that I cannot start MySQL. I had this sort of error: The server quit without updating PID file
