This afternoon, I’m exploring #AncientSiam in #SamutPrakan. This is an excellent #BKKdaytrip. If you don’t have time to see all of #Thailand, you can see much of it here. In this THREAD I will choose 10 stops and upload the rest of my photos to the #MyThailandBucketList FB group.
[1/10] The Wihan at Wat Phumin in Nan, Northern Thailand. The original temple was constructed in 1776 and has a unique floor plan as it has four Buddhas and four doors facing each direction. The murals on the wall are of particular interest #AncientSiam #SamutPrakan #Thailand
[2/10] Khun Phaen House in Ayutthaya. This is a typical wooden house from the central region of #Thailand. It is in fact four houses fronting on one rectangular platform open to the sky #AncientSiam #SamutPrakan #BKKdaytrip

This afternoon, we took a boat ride along Phunphin River in Surat Thani to a mangrove forest and then out into Ban Don Bay. Along the way we saw lots of wildlife from monkeys to kingfishers #Thailand #MyThailandBucketList ImageImageImageImage
In the mangrove forest we planted some mangrove saplings to help stop coastal erosion. Our guide said twenty years ago this whole area was all sea but now it’s a mangrove forest #Thailand #MyThailandBucketList ImageImageImageImage
We then went out into the bay and visited one of the fisherman’s huts. We had some light rain but it didn’t spoil our boat ride as it made the weather refreshingly cool. It was a great way to spend a few hours #Thailand #MyThailandBucketList ImageImageImageImage

The latest tourist attraction in Roi Et City is this 101 meter observation tower. It is modeled to look like a Wot, which is a circular panpipe used in the traditional music of the Isan region of northeastern Thailand #IsaanTrip #คาราวานอีสาน2020 #Thailand ImageImageImageImage
The Roi Et Tower took about three years to build and should be open to the public by the end of this year. We were lucky to have a special preview today. The highlight is the glass skywalk. This will be popular for sure. Though not for people who are scared of heights #IsaanTrip ImageImageImageImage
Prices for the Roi Et Tower are expected to be 100 Baht for adults with a special 50% promotion for the first month or two. The views and experience was excellent and it should definitely be on your bucket list.

This morning, we visited the Life Community Museum in So Phisai District of Bueng Kan. This small village, there’s only 50 houses, has become a tourist attraction in its own right. They nicely blend contemporary art & local culture to give visitors a unique experience #IsaanTrip ImageImageImageImage
Scattered around the village there are many examples of street art with the theme of the Naga Snake. At the cultural center, which is part of an old traditional house, you can visit the museum to learn more about the daily life here #IsaanTrip #Thailand ImageImageImageImage
If you want to immerse yourself more, there’s an opportunity to stay a night or two in one of the homestay properties. During the year they have a number of cultural activities.

This morning, we visited Khiri Wongkot Village in Na Yung district of Udon Thani province. The community, which is surrounded by green mountains of the Na Yung-Nam Som National Park, came together to form an ecotourism village to welcome tourists #IsaanTrip #MyThailandBucketList ImageImageImageImage
If you visit the community, you can opt between homestays and camping. You can also join tours by mountain bike or by local style tractor. During our visit, we took a tractor tour along streams, across fields and through woods to Huay Khang Pray Waterfall #isaantrip #Thailand ImageImageImageImage
Here we ate a delicious meal surrounded by the jungle and using utensil and a cup made from bamboo. The food included Som Tam, grilled chicken & a curry cooked in bamboo. The tour in total lasted about two hours & was really enjoyable.

Chiang Khan in Loei province has a new tourist attraction. It is a 100 meter long skywalk about 80 meters above the Mekong River. What makes it extra special is the glass floor so that you can see the views in literally every direction #IsaanTrip #MyThailandBucketList #Thailand ImageImageImageImage
Phu Phra Yai is a 19 meter high Standing Buddha that overlooks the skywalk and the river below. When you arrive, you have to put special covers over your shoes before you step on the skywalk. On busy days they will also give you queue numbers in order to reduce the crowds. ImageImageImageImage
The skywalk is not officially open yet. But local people can visit this month. Entrance is free but you have to pay 20 Baht each way for the pick-up ride to the top. It’s open daily from 7am-6pm.

If you’re interested in dinosaurs, then the northeastern region of Thailand is the best place to visit. Here are a couple of my photo blogs of recent dinosaur trips: thailandphotomap.com/2017/09/07/fou… and thailandphotomap.com/2016/10/17/din… #IsaanTrip #Thailand [THREAD] Image
Tha Uthen Dinosaur Footprints Park (แหล่งเรียนรู้รอยเท้าไดโนเสาร์ ท่าอุเทน) in Nakhon Phanom has an impressive number of dinosaur footprints #Thailand ImageImageImageImage
Anyone with an interest in dinosaurs should visit Sirindhorn Museum in Kalasin. It has the largest collection of dinosaur bones in Thailand #MyThailandBucketList ImageImageImageImage

This morning we visited Tat Ton National Park in Chaiyaphum. The main attraction here is Tat Ton Waterfall that feeds into the Lum Pa Tao River. It’s only 21 kilometers from the city and so it gets very crowded on weekends and holidays #IsaanTrip #MyThailandBucketList #Thailand ImageImageImageImage
Tat Ton Waterfall is the most famous attraction in Chaiyaphum province. The water flows here all year round. The waterfall is six meters high and 50 meters wide. There are trees among the rocks on either side which makes for excellent picnic spots #Thailand #IsaanTrip ImageImageImageImage
Tat Ton National Park is 40 Baht/20 Baht for Thais and 200 Baht/100 Baht for foreigners. Cars are 30 Baht for everyone. Bungalows can be rented in advance and cost from 1,000 Baht for up to 4 people.

This week, I’ve been invited on a mega #IsaanTrip by the Tourism Authority of Thailand. We will be visiting all 20 provinces in the northeast over the next 11 days. There are 9 vans in the convoy. Most people are travel agents with about 8 Thai media. I’m the only foreigner. Image
The following is the itinerary for the mega #IsaanTrip to all 20 provinces in Northeastern Thailand. I’ve been to some of the paces already but there are some new ones for me [1/2] #MyThailandBucketList #Thailand ImageImageImage
The #IsaanTrip lasts 11 days from 3-13 September. Our destination today is Nakhon Ratchasima which is the Gateway to Isaan. Here is the Google Map of the trip which I will update live: google.com/maps/placelist… #Thailand [2/2] ImageImageImage

Last weekend, some people asked me why I was promoting Samui as there are no tourists. It doesn’t really matter if you’re here or not. People have told me they enjoyed my photos as it gives them ideas of where to go. Which is why I did the #VirtualThailand hashtag during lockdown Image
I got plenty of ideas from #VirtualThailand for my own Thailand bucket list. Also, when I see great photos posted by Thai people, I retweet on @richardinthai. This then acts as a bookmark for places to visit. Where do you get your ideas from? Do you have a bucket list? #Thailand Image
Definitely on #MyThailandBucketList for this year is the Three Whales Rocks in Bueng Kan Province. I want to visit every time I see pictures of it. Have you been yet? #Thailand
