PREPARING YOUR BODY FOR PREGNANCY

Start taking folic acid at least 3 months before trying for a baby.

If you are on any medication, see your doctor to be sure it is safe in pregnancy or change it to a safer option.

Stop consuming herbs and concoction.

Image from google
If you drink alcohol or smoke, stop to avoid the possible negative effect on your baby. This applies for both the man and the woman.

If you haven't carried out some basic tests, do them before pregnancy especially those that can affect your baby.

Ectopic Pregnancy is a life threatening EMERGENCY

The expected home of a fertilized egg that becomes a baby is the womb

For different reasons, some of these fertilized eggs(babies) never make it to the womb

Any pregnancy outside the womb is an ECTOPIC
#NaijaOBGYNdoctor
In ectopics, pregnancy can stay in the woman's tube, ovaries, lining of/within any part of the tummy etc

As the pregnancy grows, it becomes bigger than the space it is occupying & can rupture/burst leading the severe blood loss or death of the women in some cases.
#Covid_19
This is why EARLY Ultrasound scan is a MUST for every pregnant woman so the location of pregnancy can be confirmed.

If picked early, life saving managment can start

When did you do your first scan in your pregnancy?

Have you ever had/seen an ectopic pregnancy?

Good day doc
I have not seen my period in 5 months and I am not pregnant what could be the cause?
I am 43 years old

A1
Thanks for reaching out
Many things can cause your period to become irregular. Did you start any hormonal medications or contraceptive? Image
Also before a woman becomes menopausal, her period may become more irregular and far apart until it finally stops showing up.

You will benefit from seeing a specialist to evaluate you and address your concerns

Yours in good health

Millions of girls are ashamed of their period

They do not have social support, access to supplies/materials/ facilities.

Many girls miss 1 to 2 months of school to menstruate

Many women loose working hours & income due to menses

Girls/women still see their PERIOD in PANDEMIC & the challenges are still there

You can be a voice on these themes
1. Reduce VAT/cost of sanitary material
2. Provide facilities for dignified menstruation in schools
3. Provide women with the support they need to menstruate safely at work

4. De stigmatise periods by letting both girls & boys know more about it

5. Teach girls even before they start on Menstrual Hygeine

Situations where you shouldn't reject C/S
1. Placenta previa- the placenta won't let baby pass through for vaginal delivery

2. Twins; 1st twin is coming with buttock

3. You have had 2 or more C/S before.

4. If you have had fibroid/ any surgery on your uterus before.

Each regular pad or tampon soaks about 5ml of blood(1tspn)

So if your period is 80mls, then you will be using an average of 16 pads or so during your period.

If you are using more than 16, each pad fully soaked, your flow is heavy
