Today, 15 May, is Nakba Day, when Palestinians mark & protest the ethnic cleansing carried out by Israeli forces & militias in 1948.

71 years later, the Nakba is ongoing; Israel is still displacing & colonising - and refugees are still denied their right of return.

Around 85-90% of Palestinians who lived in what became Israel were expelled. Four out of five Palestinian towns & villages were destroyed, or repopulated by Jewish Israelis. In cities like Haifa & Acre, Palestinian neighbourhoods were emptied, and resettled. #Nakba71
Expulsions began before Israel's unilateral declaration of independence, & continued some time after. By May 1948, around half of final total of Palestinian refugees had lost their homes. Palestinians were still being expelled from al-Majdal (now Ashkelon) in late 1950. #Nakba71
