On the auspicious occasion of #narasimhajayanti let's look at how Narasimha opens and closes the Vishnu Sahasranama. #thread 
He is the first Avatara to be mentioned by name, appearing right in the 3rd verse.

நீண்ட ஆயுளை பெற பிரம்மாவை நோக்கி கடும் தவம் புரிந்தான். இரவிலோ, பகலிலோ, தேவர்களாலோ, மனிதனாலோ, விலங்காலோ, பறவையாலோ, ஆயுதங்களாலோ, நீரிலோ, நிலத்திலோ, ஆகாயத்திலோ, வீட்டிற்கு உள்ளேயோ, வெளியேயோ தனக்கு மரணம் ஏற்படக்கூடாது, என் உடலில் இருந்து ஒரு சொட்டு ரத்தம் நிலத்தில் சிந்தினாலும்
தன்னை கொல்ல முயல்பவன் தலை சுக்குநூறாக வெடித்துவிட வேண்டும் என்ற வரத்தை பிரம்மாவிடம் பெற்றான். அதன் பிறகு அவனின் அட்டூழியங்கள் எல்லை மீறி போயின. ஶ்ரீமன் நாராயணனை வணங்கியதற்காக தன் சொந்த மகன் பிரஹலாதனையே கொல்லத் துணிந்தான். பலவாறாக மகனை சித்தரவதை செய்தும் பிரகலாதன் நாராயண நாமத்தை

Sri Yoga Narasimha temple, Gorur, Karnataka- Sri vishnu is believed to have appeared as Sri Yoganarasimha (yogic posture) on a stone to sage gokarna.The present deity statue is believed to be carved from the same stone.The deity is special as he faces west and has three eyes 🙏.
Jharani Narsimha cave temple,Bidar, Karnataka - The idol here is believed to be a swayambhu(self manifest) formed on the laterite wall. One has to wade through a 4 - 5 feet of water in the cave to get a glimpse of this divine deity at the end of tunnel, an architectural wonder 🙏

We know the story behind #NarasimhaJayanti. To summarise:
a. Hiranyakashipu, wants to avenge the killing of his brother Hiranyaksha by Lord Vishnu.
b. Does a long penance and gets a lot of boons from various Gods, the most important being from Brahma.

c. Predictably, Hiranyakashipu (HK) asks for immortality, but Brahma refuses. So, HK asks for the same thing (he thinks), but in a convoluted manner.
