1/4) Former Archivist Don W. Wilson, a historian, puts his name on a work of historical fiction for @WomenseNews and @CABlueBlaze--claims he acted "independently" in certifying Congressional Pay Amendment (CPA) in 1992, and disparages now-retired Archivist

2/4)...David Ferriero for deferring to the Justice Department Office of Legal Counsel (OLC) regarding the status of the Equal Rights Amendment in 2020 (thereby subjecting it to "the political whims of" the federal judiciary), rather than following the supposed Wilson "precedent."
3/4) In reality, however, Wilson, the historian, certified the CPA as the 27th Amendment only AFTER properly seeking authoritative LEGAL guidance from the Office of Legal Counsel-- just as Ferriero later did with respect to the ERA!

1/JFK ASSASSINATION THREAD:

Today is impt deadline for USGOVT in ensuring release of #JFKassassination records. Fed agencies had to identify to @USNatArchives specific basis for postponing release of records beyond Oct 26, 2021.

Here is some history on releasing all records.
2/In 1992, Congress passed President John F. Kennedy Assassination Records Act, 44 U.S.C. § 2107 (Supp. V. 1994), which required all government agencies to search for records in their possession concerning assassination & place them in #NationalArchives.
3/A Review Board was established to identify & retrieve all "assassination records". I co-authored law review article in 1993 defining that term & identifying most important assassination records to obtain.

A THREAD, about grief and bereavement:
Like many of you, I’ve been doing a lot of reading about racism and the history of slavery in America. One of the best resources I have come across is the Freedmen and Southern Society Project at the @UofMaryland.
1/?
The project is a collection of about 50k primary sources, collected mainly from the #NationalArchives, that document the history of slavery, emancipation and reconstruction. It is a staggering and incredible moving project, filled with stories that deserve a modern audience.
2/
I want to share one with you today.

#tdih 1968 When asked at White House luncheon why young people are angry, Eartha Kitt said, b/c "You send best of this country off to be shot & maimed." In retaliation for her honesty, her career in U.S. was ruined for 10 years & CIA tracked her. See ⬇️. zinnedproject.org/news/tdih/eart…
In light of #NationalArchives story today, we all need to carry on Eartha Kitt's bravery and honesty. And recognize long history of U.S. gov't. (and textbooks') erasure/silencing of critique. We recommend Renee Poussaint's interview with Eartha Kitt ⬇️.
Here are dozens of key stories in U.S. history that are missing or mis-represented in textbooks. That is why we provide free people's history lessons to the growing number of teachers all over U.S. committed to #teachoutsidetextbook. See ⬇️ zinnedproject.org/if-we-knew-our…
