…reconciliation doesn’t work that way…
…there is nothing simple or singular about Reconciliation. It’s an ongoing process that requires transformative change at multiple social and political levels. It can’t be broken down into palatable boxes to be checked. It’s not one day, one act, one symbol, or one orange shirt.
1. Yesterday, I had an experience online, that left me feeling very small.
September 30th, was the very first #NationalDayforTruthandReconciliation, and I'm pretty sure the overwhelming majority of us can agree that #CdnMediaFailed us by playing "Where's Waldo-Trudo?".

2. And IMHO, this unfortunate taking away of the platform from the Indigenous community was made possible, in part surprising less meticulous than usual standard planning, communications, and expectations management by the PMO.
3. As a Canadian who wants things to get better, I was upset at the sloppiness as it left an opening for #CdnMedia to be as lazy as it could possibly be, and not make an effort to promote Indigenous voices on the day.
I don't often agree with Don Braid, but he has written a very insightful column here. I have a few observations. 1/10

First, the comments that follow his article prove his point. Most of them take one approach or another to defend either residential schools, or systemic racism, or both. It's actually pretty shocking. 2/10
Second, Mr. Braid has a personal reason to hope for an end to systemic racism and a dropping of the barriers for Indigenous people. He has a stake in it now, with his grandchildren. 3/10
