#TodayinHistory Operation Shakti, when the India Govt under AB Vajpayee, conducts 5 nuclear explosions in 1998 at Pokhran over two days, the second such, after Operation Smiling Buddha in 1974.

Of the 5 detonations at Pokhran II, the first was a fusion bomb, while the rest were fission ones. While there were 3 explosions on May 11, 1998, the other two were on May 15. The operation came to be known as Shakti or Pokhran II.

India's nuclear program started way back in 1945, when Homi Jehangir Bhabha, established the TIFR, for harnessing nuclear energy. However post the 1962 War, and death of Bhabha, the program slowed down.

तसेच नॅशनल टेक्नॉलॉजीने हंसा-3 हे भारताचे पहिले स्वदेशी विमानही निश्चित केले आहे. हे राष्ट्रीय अंतराळ प्रयोगशाळांनी विकसित केले आहे.
अंतराळ इंजिनिअर (Aerospace Engineer) आणि राष्ट्रपती डॉ. एपीजे अब्दुल कलाम यांच्या नेतृत्वात पोखरणमधील पाच अणु चाचण्यांपैकी ही पहिली होती.

Interesting facts:
1. India's Nuclear ambitions was evident since 1944, credit to N-programme pioneer #HomiJehangirBhabha.
2. Amidst all post-independence challenges, by 1960 N-Prgm taken shape & Bhabha estimated to have N-weapon production in a year or so when asked by Nehru.

3. N-prgm derailed due to China-India War (Oct-Nov'1962) to again pick-up pace post India-Pak '65 war, when India 'felt' need of N-weapons.
4. But now big bolt to our N-ambitions- Bhabha died (or killed?) in a plane crash in 24-Jan-66, exactly after 13 days, Lal B. Shastri...
