here is a map of the 1978 recognized tribal areas

This should give U a taste of what the US Supreme Court is proposing with their new Oklahoma ruling

#oklahoma #scotus #SupremeCourt #NativeAmerican #Native @michaeljknowles @stillgray @chadfelixg @charlescwcooke @davidharsanyi
Essentially, A HUGE portion of the United States is claimed or historically was tribal land as recognized by the federal government,

Now add virtually the rest of the country,
And U get the idea of what the Supreme Court's new principle could mean for the country at large
If you guys want the link to the map here it Is:

Protesters want #AndrewJackson's statue removed because he ordered the removal of an estimated 100,000 #indigenous people from eastern states. 15,000 died along the #TrailOfTears headed west. #native / thread britannica.com/event/Trail-of…
In Dec 1830, #AndrewJackson told Congress "Indian removal" was approaching its "happy consummation," moving "savages" west, freeing land between TN & LA for white settlement, & "reliev[ing]" Miss & western Alabama of "Indian occupancy."
"What good man would prefer" forests & "savages" to "our extensive Republic" occupied by 12 million "happy people" & filled w/ the "blessings of liberty, civilization & religion?" Jackson asked Congress in 1830.

The white supremacist's portrait hangs in the Oval Office.

Dear twitter,

After a loooong 2wks of conferencing at #SfAA2019 & #AAPA2019, & after a couple of speedbumps, I'm finally back home in Oregon & I have time to do something I've been trying to do since #AmAnth2018--

My ~Twitter Grant Proposal~! (Cue echo effect)

#DeStressMyDiss
I came up w/the idea of proposing my research to twitter last fall while attempting force my proposal to fit the requirements of a theory-heavy grant opportunity.

I often have to re-write what I *really* mean to account for the views/feels of my "peers" who "peer-review" my app.
But the thing is, they aren't my "peers," bc #Indigenous academics like me haven't been welcome in #Bioanth long enough for funding agencies to actually have enough of my peers available to peer-review.

So my work must be squished & squeezed to get Western scientists to like it.

No matter who comes to your door for tricks and treats, we see much scarier things every day in our reporting:
The #EPA is now in the hands of a lobbyist for the coal industry. We’re sure that’s going to go super-duper well for the environment:
