Some context for our panel on Native Voting at @Netroots_Nation:

Demographically, there are 5.2 million Native Americans from the 2010 census. There are over 700 tribes in this country, 573+ federally recognized , over 200 state recognized tribes. #NN20
Tribal nations in aggregate are the 13th largest employer in the nation and we manage approximately 56 million acres of land held in trust by the U.S. Government. #NN20
Over the year there have been two Native American Presidential Forums where we brought together tribal leaders, citizens, political candidates to talk about issues of importance in Indian Communities, such as #MMIW , #ClimateChange, Media Representation. msnbc.com/all-in/watch/e…

While the Frank LaMere Native American Presidential Forum waits on Senator Bernie Sanders @BernieSanders to arrive, read his "Empower Tribal Nations" platform. #NativeForum #NativeVote2020 #NativeVote berniesanders.com/issues/empower…
@BernieSanders It's not as detailed as his 2016 platform but here are some 2020 highlights from @BernieSanders:
* Honor Native American tribal treaty rights and sovereignty, moving away from a relationship of paternalism and control toward one of deference and support. #HonorTheTreaties
* Reauthorize and expand the Violence Against Women Act to provide critical resources to women in Indian country and allow all tribes to prosecute non-Native criminals. #VAWA #TribalJurisdiction #JusticeForNativeWomen #VAWA4All #VAWA4MMIW #MMIW

My analysis of @ewarren at the @4directionsvote forum: Essentially, I see a pattern of attempting to vaguely admit that she was wrong, but not say specifically why she was wrong or what she did. And then to pivot quickly to her strong suit, which is public policy. #NativeVote 1/
It's a good strategy for her, but it doesn't address the central issue of Cherokee sovereignty: how will you repair the harm you have caused? She has not even admitted what that harm was, the DNA test video is still up on her website, and she didn't answer any tough questions. 2/
The panel was laudatory and pitched softball questions that had no real bite.

Really, I was most disappointed in how any critique of Warren is seen as coming from the radical Trumpian right, rather than from concerned Indigenous people. 3/

Sen. Warren, who during Standing Rock in 2016 (when she was still claiming to be Native) never spoke out to advocate for the Water Protectors. Instead, she spoke sympathetically about the plight of DAPL pipeline workers. How does this "Honor Treaties? #NativeForum #Election2020
Here's where Sen. Warren said. She was very late speaking out on Standing Rock. This is dated Dec. 4, 2016 – the day Obama revoked the DAPL permit. #NativeForum #Election2020 #NativeVote standwithstandingrock.net/senator-elizab…

Story: Chiricahua Apache BF went back to his AZ reservation to register voters and talk about GOTV. He’s never really been politically active, and like a lot of Native Americans, he’s somewhat distrustful of government..... 1/
He explained to me that Native Americans are much more inclined to trust Native Americans when it comes to conversations about governance and voting and what constitutes “civic duty”....which of course makes perfect sense considering our nation’s history. 2/
I worked quite hard on @HillaryClinton’s campaign, and he largely supported from the sidelines. But after the election, he realized he had a unique and singular voice to reach a critical portion of the electorate, particularly in his home (swing) state of AZ. 3/
