The parade of winter weather continues this week. Another round of accumulating snow arrives this evening in southwest North Dakota and then spreads through the central and east on Tuesday. #ndwx
After just light snow on Wednesday, a more significant system should develop Thursday and Friday across the region. Accumulating snow is likely for much of the region, with the highest potential for most significant impacts in eastern and southern areas of the region. #ndwx

You may have seen in the news that a Sudden Stratospheric Warming (SSW) event is occurring - what does that mean, and what are the potential impacts for North Dakota? A thread (1/9):

The stratosphere is the layer of the atmosphere extending from ~6 miles to ~31 miles above the Earth’s surface. The stratospheric polar vortex (we bet you've heard of the polar vortex!) resides in this area, and can significantly influence weather in the mid-latitudes. Conditions are easing somewhat in extreme northeast North Dakota. Please use caution and drive for the conditions.
The following closures remain in place:
Interstate 94 from Dickinson to Fargo
U.S. Highway 52 from Harvey to Jamestown

U.S. Highway 281 from Jamestown to the South Dakota border
North Dakota Highway 46 from Streeter to Interstate 29
Portions of other state highways may be blocked, check the travel map for more details.

An early season winter storm is expected within portions of the Dakotas into Minnesota between Thursday and Friday, likely to bring at least minor winter impacts. Impacts are expected to be mainly tied to travel conditions during this timeframe. #ndwx #mnwx
As of Sunday:

❄️ There is a 60% chance of minor winter impacts occurring anywhere within eastern North Dakota into northwest Minnesota, including impacts from accumulating snow, reduced visibility, and light icing. #ndwx #mnwx
❄️❄️ There is also a 30% chance of seeing major winter impacts within eastern North Dakota into northwest Minnesota, including impacts from heavy snow accumulation and possible blizzard conditions making for very difficult to impossible travel. #ndwx #mnwx
