Last week I asked @Dave_Eby to reiterate on the record his 100 day plan statement that we can’t expand or build new fossil fuel projects in BC.

Instead he said the @bcndp are “committed to meeting our climate targets”. Are they really? 1/ #bcpoli ecojustice.ca/pressrelease/l…
BC’s climate accountability reports exist because the @bcgreenscaucus demanded them during the minority gov’t to ensure no future gov't could greenwash reality.

And the reality in British Columbia is that we are not on track to meet either our 2025 or 2030 targets. 2/ #bcpoli
The @bcndp continue to use all the right words but their actions shout the exact opposite.

This government is in court right now because they broke their own laws requiring a reduction in emissions. 3/ #bcpoli #ClimateAction #ClimateDelay theprovince.com/opinion/kate-k…

Overnight we published this ad about @DeutscheBank’s #coal funding in @DIEZEIT, one of Germany’s most read newspapers. Deutsche Bank must not arrange finance for Whitehaven Coal, a company that is planning THREE new or expanded coal mines. #Thread 🧵
Deutsche Bank claims to support the #ParisAgreement and #NetZero2050. Last year the @IEA concluded that #NetZero2050 means “no new coal mines or mine extensions”. More recently, the @IPCC warned yet again that limiting global warming to 1.5ºC means urgently phasing out coal.
Since 2013, Deutsche Bank has loaned to Whitehaven Coal, the largest #pureplay coal mining corporation listed on the #ASX. In February 2020, Deutsche Bank was part of a group of banks that loaned a combined $1 billion to Whitehaven.

1/ New Paper bit.ly/3M2gZNv @bmj_latest showing overlooked potential of “Availability Interventions” to cut consumption of energy-dense foods, meat and alcohol, for leaner greener diets @OHID @OHA @Alc-UK @CCC_UK @WWF @BIT @NESTA @GJHollands @J_P_Reynolds @LEAP_Oxford
2/ Suboptimal diets are one of the largest contributors to premature death and preventable diseases worldwide, contributing also to health inequalities and environmental harm.
3/ Interventions that alter the assortment of available food or drink – “Availability Interventions” - show consistent and often large effects on selection and consumption with no evidence of adverse effects, particularly on inequalities.

Guess they're talking about Canada & @liberal_party re #BayduNord #TMX #LNGCanada
#oldgrowrh #clearcut 👇
"Ongoing investments in fossil fuel infrastructure & clearing large swaths of forest for agriculture undermine the massive curbs in emissions needed to meet Paris goal"
Such cuts would be hard to achieve without without drastic, economy-wide measures, the panel acknowledged. It’s more likely that the world will pass 1.5C

#JustinTrudeau never had any INTENTION of meeting 2C much less 1.5C target
Many experts say #CCS is UNFEASIBLE with current technologies, & even if it could be done it would be far costlier than preventing the emissions in the first place."

They need to elaborate what they mean by costlier @MarkJCarney @s_guilbeault

I'll be live tweeting the debate on this motion.

As a third party we haven't been given the opportunity to be on the speakers list for the motion. #bcpoli #ClimateCrisis #LNG #oilandgas
Debate on #LNG motion begins with BC Liberal MLA Mike Bernier suggesting that BC LNG can “help” with the transition away from coal.
LNG is not a transition fuel. The methane emissions from #fracking intensify the #ClimateEmergency
MLA Bernier states “we are losing billions in investment.”

No mention of billions in subsidies to prop up oil and gas industry.

Climate change is already costing billions.

Consider the costs of wildfires, droughts, floods.

This week we published our @ETC_energy report on clean #hydrogen🟢in an electrified economy⚡️. I will be posting some key insights here in the next 2 wks.

Today, I start w/ our vision for the role of #CleanHydrogen for #NetZero2050.
bit.ly/3sZDOrg #EnergyTwitter
#CleanHydrogen in a #netzero world will play a critical role in sectors where direct electrification will likely remain impossible or uneconomic for many decades.

Electrify wherever possible. Use hydrogen wherever not possible. Image
We have high confidence in the role of #CleanHydrogen for already existing uses - like ammonia for fertiliser, or methanol.

And think that hydrogen use in steel🔩, shipping🚢, aviation✈️ and power storage🔋 is highly likely to develop. Image

This is the #DemPartyPlatform for 2020. This part is called: COMBATING THE CLIMATE CRISIS AND PURSUING ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE (Part 3)
Only one party recognizes the urgent existential crisis facing our planet. Only one party believes in science and solutions. 1/19
#Democrats agree with scientists and public health experts that the United States—and the world—must achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions as soon as possible, and no later than 2050. 2/19 #DemPartyPlatform #NetZero2050 #ClimateAction
To reach net-zero emissions as rapidly as possible, #Democrats commit to eliminating carbon pollution from power plants by 2035 through technology-neutral standards for clean energy and energy efficiency. 3/19 #DemPartyPlatform ##NetZero2050 #ClimateAction

Some folks think I should be more positive about #NetZero2050 target. To be honest I am not. Here’s why:
❎Current UK target 80% by 2050 ❎New target is net zero by 2050 ❎Cuts are not domestic ❎Relies on failed international offsets
❎Relies on BECCS - which are massive land grab in global South ❎Doesn’t include aviation or shipping. ❎Developed countries need to be 0 emissions by 2030 not 2050.
❎Emissions are increasing not decreasing. ❎What matters is action now not 2050. ❎UK fairshare is -247% by 2030. ❎ World heading to 2c warming not 1.5c
