At his first #PMQs, in October 2022, PM Sunak said: “I'm pleased we had a record number of new homes built in the last year.” 🤥

There is no evidence to support that claim, & No 10 declined to provide any evidence for it, despite several requests.

While the number of ‘net additional dwellings’ technically hit 'the highest point on record in 2019/20', these statistics only go back to the early 90s. Other metrics & housing experts suggest that recent house building is generally far lower than records set decades ago.

It’s also important to note that these figures don’t strictly relate to “house building”—as well as new build homes they also include conversions (such as turning a large house into multiple flats) & changes of use such as an old shop into a house or flats.

At @StirlingCouncil meeting today, Tory/Cabal tried to dig themselves out of the shambles of a budget, which they bullied thro last week. They raised the CouncilTax to 7%,to slash nursery provision and Youth Support. Today they tried to distance themselves from their decisions.
The SNP government have agreed to provide additional funding to support the “Big Noise”. We don’t know when or how much. But Lab/Tory having realised what a shambles they had inflicted on Stirling ;want to spend money they don’t have to get them out a hole.
The SNP Group decided that it would be better to wait until we know what additional money the SNP Government were providing. Then we could decide how that money would be used to reverse the Lab/Tory cuts. This proposal was agreed by ALL the councillors , all Parties.

When - not if - Penny Mordaunt becomes PM, I'll genuinely wish her well.

I've always been this weird, paradoxical combination of weary cynic and at the same time, an optimist who hopes for the best from people.

This makes me... I dunno, a well-intentioned fool?
This will be the seventh change of Prime Minister in my politics-watching lifetime. The only time I didn't have any hope at all was when Johnson became PM.

I'm so dumb, I even took Theresa May's incoming speech about 'burning injustice' seriously! 😳😳😳
Then came 'citizens of nowhere' and WELL. Fuck's sake Theresa. 🤮🤮🤮

In fact, thinking about it, it usually takes me about 3 months. To go from "let's see how they do" to "Oh my God this is a complete horror show".

I was even like that with Blair. Tuition fees were why.

Update on Stirling Council now that the dust has settled. In addition to the Provost and depute, Cllr leader and depute being shared out within the Con/Lab pact, there were the committees. There are six policy committees operating in the Council, all the Convenors and Vice Convenors
went to Lab. the Tories have two members on each committee. All the “non political” committees are now chaired by Tories. All the external appointments have gone to Lab or Tory. So, if it walks , waddles and quacks it’s a duck 🦆. This was all negotiated between Lab and Tories.
And already they are indistinguishable from each other in their denials that there was no agreement. Oh and as the office manoeuvres show , when Labour tried to move the Tory Provost out of his office ,they were quickly brought to heel. The Tories objected and immediately the move

OK - for those fed up with the Labour Leadership and thinking of leaving the party here are my thoughts...

So far as the leader of the Labour Party that I would like to see I would give Keir Starmer about two or three out of ten...
He committed to left policies, it's too early to judge. He committed to unify the party - I think he has a finely crafted cabinet with a couple of nods to the left but, as of today, a few appointments specifically chosen to piss off the left...
and result in as many of the left leaving the party as possible. His political performance as leader of the Labour Party has been decidedly wishy-washy - he has challenged the government on the coronavirus exit strategy (the Achilles Heel of Blaire and Bush's Iraq strategy)...

The thing that gets to me re #punchgate and @bbclaurak & @Peston's role in it is how they've reacted afterwards

Compare with @afneil & Johnson's no-show. I was pissed off with the BBC & Neil until he did that piece to camera. That was fair enough, he can't force him to show...
... but Neil showed he understood how out of order it was

But Laura K & Peston have acted like it's no big deal that "senior Tories" lied to them to manipulate the media narrative. Indeed I was quite disgusted listening to Election Cast where they downplayed it & made out it...
... it was an unclear situation. Anyone who's seen the video knows there's no doubt there was no punch

What's problematic is that they've given no kickback against whoever fed them the fake information. There's no sense of outrage at being used by the Tories in this way. No...

I look around today & see the attacks on Labour, see the attacks on members by TW, see the incompetence of the PM's deal on Brexit, & the determination of MPs to prevent anything better, I look at the turncoat #EffluentEleven & their determination to keep the Tories in power...
I look at the continued AS attacks (despite all Labour has done) & compare it to the racism, Islamophobia, misogyny, and many other misdemeanours that go unpunished, and almost celebrated, in other parties, I look at the people dying on the streets of Britain, I look at all...
