⚠️🚦 We're sorry @Se_Railway passengers have had a disrupted morning today, after a points failure at #NewCross . The kit that failed is what we call a "switch diamond", circled in the diagram below. As well as being sensitive, they are also disruptive when they go wrong... /1
... because they potentially affect 3 lines at the same time. As you look at the diagram, you can see it sits amongst 3 lines, and when it failed - effectively stopped telling the signalling system it was safely locked into position - signals on all 3 routes went red. /2
We've secured the diamond into straight running position, so trains can run again, albeit without being able to use the crossovers. We should be able to run a normal service like that until tonight, when our technicians will come in + fault-find and get it fully fixed. /3

⚠️Major changes to @Se_Railway services this evening from @NetworkRailCHX, with diversions and cancellations in place. This thread explains the changes to your trains and why we had to make them.⚠️
@Se_Railway @NetworkRailCHX We will only be able to run 50% of our normal peak-time trains from Charing Cross tonight. Main Line services to Dover + Ramsgate will run to/from Victoria and there will be fewer trains to Tunbridge Wells + some other cancellations.
@Se_Railway @NetworkRailCHX Passengers for Tunbridge Wells can use any train to Tonbridge and a shuttle train will be running between the two stations to carry you home. Online journey planners are being updated to reflect this, or check at southeasternrailway.co.uk

⚠️ We're sorry to say that @Se_Railway + @TLRailUK trains will be disrupted this morning by this cracked rail near #NewCross . We're working on a plan to run trains around the problem but it's not a normal rail, so it's not an easy fix. #TLUpdates /1 ⚠️
@Se_Railway @TLRailUK It's called a "crossing" which is where one track crosses over another, and it's a bespoke part made from either cast or fabricated steel - a big chunk of steel it is too. We can't just clamp the rail and run trains - we have to cut it out and replace it with a new part. /2
@Se_Railway @TLRailUK Luckily the location means we can cut this part out and put "plain line" in its place, although we won't be able to swing the points and make trains change tracks. This crack was discovered soon after 2am + much of the work has been completed so we hope to have this done soon. /3
