The Community Affairs References Committee releases their report into the Adequacy of #Newstart today.

The senate referred this in July last year and heard evidence from from well respected institutions and think tanks & most importantly income support recipients themselves.
The report has now been tabled and the committee has recommended an increase to the #JobSeeker Payment, #YouthAllowance and Parenting Payment rates to ensure people do not live in poverty.

You can read it here: bit.ly/3bP3xuF
Thank you to all the community members who gave evidence at the inquiry.

For having the courage to come forward and share your experiences with us.

What to make of Trump's support for Putin's proposal for summit of the leaders of Perm 5 members of the UNSC on n-arms control and security issues? What does this mean for #NewSTART, #NPT, and further action on disarmament? Some background & analysis. 1/
A P5 leaders summit on nuclear weapons is a potentially important development. There hasn't been such a mtg since Sept. 2009 when Obama convened UNSC for Resolution 1887. See armscontrol.org/pressroom/2009… This time around real progress is going to be difficult. Some background ... 2/
its important to note that the P5 heads of state summit idea is not a Trump initiative; the WH is responding to an invitation from President Putin sent to the leaders of the P5 members of the UNSC in late-January. Putin spoke about his concept in a speech a few days earlier. 3/

The Government's plan to rollout the #cashlessdebitcard nationally is an ideological obsession with punishing people on income support.

Rather than wasting money and time on this card the Government should be increasing #Newstart.

#Auspol

smh.com.au/politics/feder…
There is absolutely no evidence to show that income management works and its just plain cruel to go ahead with a damaging and expensive scheme like this when we have people living in poverty on #Newstart
The community will not accept a nation wide rollout and the big four banks, Coles and Woolworths should be very wary of becoming involved in this disaster of a scheme.

Brace yourselves, @mod_russia Final Board Meeting ("Итоговая коллегия") today.

Highly likely that crashed Su-57 was indeed a first serial aircraft, and could have been one of the major deliverable to brag about. Hope it will be discussed anyway.

Another "Anniversary Interview" by SRF commander Karakayev:

Stay tuned for a thread.

Lots of stuff said elsewhere over last few weeks, or even earlier.
5 ICBM launches in 2019 (3xPL, 2xKY),6 planned for 2020 (5xPL, 1x??).
KY test range modernization completed in 2019: new set of measuring and comms equipment, real-time information for Central Command Post.

2/
#NewSTART mentioned A LOT:
- ceilings as the only numbers that can be disclosed on SRF (~60% of delivery vehicles and warheads).
- ~70% of 18 annual inspections by the US are on SRF objects
- expressed hope that "common sense" will prevail with regard to US stance on extension

SRF Commander Karakayev wrote a piece for "Military Thought" journal about, well, "Strategic Rocket Forces of the Modern Russia": vm.ric.mil.ru/Stati/item/229…

Some takeaways in a THREAD:
- 3 armies, 12 divisions (4 silo+8 mobile, incl. Yurya)
- ~5000 people on duty at peacetime, 1/3 on battle posts
- about 400 ICBMs total (again!)
- ~95% of missiles ready to launch daily
- RU reacted to US withdrawal from ABMT and enhancing MD capabilites...

2/
...by continuously modernizing battle payloads and developing new, more refined, missile systems
- "almost all" ICBMs in service have MD penetration aids
- Avangard missile system development complete, gliding winged vehicle is a fundamentally new payload type

Here is a thread detailing the evidence #Newstart recipients are giving to the Senate inquiry in Elizabeth, South Australia today #auspol
Tracey, who is over 50, lives in public housing and has casual work. She considers herself lucky. That gives her about $100 a week extra, but life is still "no picnic". #auspol
Tracey says last week her computer had a hissy fit, she couldn't access files. She needs a new computer for a $1000. Reckons it would save two years to save up. #auspol

Some thoughts on RS-26 as alleged designator for Avangard missile system with gliding winged reentry vehicle. (source of claim: ).

#hyperhype

1/
What we know?

1) Avangard is being introduced into #NewSTART because its booster is basically an ICBM: UR-100NUTTKh/RS-18X/SS-19 Mod...
2) It was mentioned as SS-19 Mod-X-4 in US NPR 2018
3) RS-26 is/was a designator for Rubezh "light" ICBM prototype within NewSTART process

2/
4) AFAIK there were some references in Russian media and tender documentation, etc. using expressions like "Rubezh-Avangard missile system". Personal theory: it was an umbrella R&D name with emphasis on using more or less existing tech for missile defense penetration...

Hey @bairdjulia #thedrum how about a series of shows specifically on LNP's perverse Compassionate Conservatism= #WarOnThePoor ??

Every week there's more reports of the carnage their #ClassWarFare imposes on ppl receiving a Centrelink Payment. The latest=

If the best welfare is a job, why isn't anyone acknowledging the job deficit? Unemployment=higher than 715,000 @roymorganonline estimates 1.3Mil vs (less than 200,000 jobs),
Meanwhile unemployment keeps rising. With a recession looming=more unemployed @bairdjulia #thedrum
LNP's #ClassWarFare According to SMH data shows 2030 people have died after receiving a robodebt letter. 663 were considered "vulnerable" =serious mental illness, intellectual disabilities, homeless, escaping DV.

Hey @AlboMP

Mind if I have a word?

I'll be frank, I'm not happy about what appears to be Labor capitulating to the coal industry in response to the electoral defeat & the concerns of QLD mining communities.

I want to see Labor creating pathways out of coal
🐝
#auspol #qanda
I just can't reconcile how Labor can both pursue proactive climate change policy while also supporting coal. Can't get my head around it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I note the wording has changed slightly from 'supporting a transition from coal' to now 'supporting coal'.
The reason coal-dependent communities fear losing the coal industry is that it will adversely affect them financially, fair call.

But I want to take a look at the big picture.

Often mining communities are FIFO/camp-living situations, long hours, hard yakka.

2019 is the 50th edition of the #SIPRIYearbook. Join SIPRI as we celebrate the occasion with a 50-day countdown and share the history of the Yearbook over the past 50 years. Watch the introductory video with SIPRI Director @dansmith2020:
The first #SIPRIYearbook was published in 1969 with the aim ‘to produce a factual and balanced account of a controversial subject—the arms race and attempts to stop it’. The rise in world military spending and disarmament efforts, including the #NPT, take central focus.
'In whatever way the nuclear situation is examined, the inescapable feature is what enormous quantities of weapons have been amassed' – Movement towards a first-strike capability by the #US and #USSR, the #SALT talks and European security were a focus of the 1970 #SIPRIYearbook.

1/36) So, after two years of not taking any position on New START Extension, the administration is now pushing for “new arms-control agreements with Russia and China”

washingtonpost.com/world/national…
2) This article reads as if a Trump official wrote it. Claims regarding Chinese/Russian nuke advancements are dubious. It fails to examine (1) what the U.S. wants, (2) what the admin is willing to concede to Russia and China, and (3) the Admin’s record on nuke negots.
3) The U.S. is not planning, or likely able, to significantly grow its nuclear force. Trump is right to be concerned – conv and nuc mod$ bow waves hitting at the same time, with no budgetary room to spark a strategic arms race following New START’s lapse.

Bullshit! I am not buying this denial.

A. Lenore Taylor is a bloody good journalist & would not report without due diligence.

B. Morrison & co have shown by their words & actions over the years they love the race-baiting as an election strategy.

thenewdaily.com.au/news/national/…
The government is just now realising that all the mainstreaming of hate they have done over the years is coming back to bite them in the arse.

Let's face it, these pricks wanted a terror attack, just not the one they got.
They are also betting on the fact that so many in our press gallery still follow that bullshit line of "well if the Minister says... we have to take him at his word..."

We all know how often these pricks have lied, not obfuscated, but LIED!

The Government must suspend #robodebt during the legal challenge in the Federal Court #centrelink #auspol #greens

theguardian.com/australia-news…
Two years ago I chaired the senate inquiry into the #robodebt debacle and the evidence we heard was both devastating because of the human consequences and gobsmacking in the brazen way the Gov threw out fairness to pick on some of the most vulnerable people #auspol #greens
Since that senate inquiry the Government has tweaked around the edges, but it has not addressed the underlining unfairness of the program and people are still being harassed for money they do not owe and cannot pay #auspol #greens #robodebt #centrelink
