So lots to unpack from #NHLJets news conference. New HC Rick Bowness said Barry Trotz would have been his first choice as well. Said prior to Barry making his decision, he had AC offers from a couple of other teams but wasn't interested in a rebuild.
Says he noticed there was something off with the Jets when Dallas played Wpg last season- because they had been a difficult team to play against in previous years. And returning to being that difficult opponent is what he is looking to establish in 2022-23.
Says at this stage of his life and career, he does not need to coach for the sake of coaching. But the Jets organization and the city of Wpg check off all the boxes.

A lot of nuggests from today's pressers (and subsequent scrums) with #NHLJets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff and new head coach Rick Bowness.

A thread:
- Scott Arniel is the new associate coach. Wade Flaherty remains on as goalie coach. Bowness wants to hire two more assistants in the next few days.

- Cheveldayoff spoke with about 12 coaches during interview process. Good conversatiosn with John Tortorella and Bruce Cassidy.
- no formal development camp this year. Jets staff will go to players instead. Time crunch with world juniors, etc.

- Bowness interview process began 10 days ago.

- Bowness has spoken to Mark Scheifele. Said Scheifele was "all-in."

On the TJMS, Elliotte Friedman said the Flyers were very, very serious about Barry Trotz and believes he was their top choice, but thinks that Trotz told them yesterday he was going in another direction. #TrotzWatch
Friedman added there are now fewer doors to open and thinks Winnipeg is still in it. He believes Dallas is out, not sure about Detroit and Boston might be around it. Friedman thinks this is a good sign for the #NHLJets as he doesn’t get the sense Trotz has said no to them yet.
Friedman also touched on the news about Trotz buying a house in Nashville. He doesn’t put a lot of weight into it and doesn’t think it mean a lot one way or the other. He mentioned if Trotz decided to jump into management right away, it might be with the Predators.

Maurice not playing his hand on if the top two lines will look like they ended last night. Won't do it on a back to back, but says he's open to moving parts around.
Maurice felt there was no cost to making last night's line changes. Wants to see those lines for a while, but won't put experimentation over winning.

Premier Brian Pallister begins today's presser by saying, "Today's good news."
Pallister thanks Manitobans, says we've stuck to the fundamentals and those fundamentals will move us forward.

Today isn't a victory lap, but a celebration of what's been done.
No room for complacency, there must be no room for a COVID comeback.

An attempt to write a fair/honest #NHLJets assessment:

It's always difficult to present what may be fair but negative comments on the team we all love. Many (who need to hear) just tune you out. So you either hold back too much or smash all the dishes on the floor...
...such is twitter. Oh well. The Jets are a very good team on paper. One of the most loaded teams for forward depth in the league. Last year's #whitehout was awesome and the team looked the part of SC Champs. This year however, they haven't been as good. You can blame whoever...
...but if you know anything about pro sports, it always comes down to the coach. You can't replace 20 players easily. Before the season started the coach wanted Myers to play LHD offhand. How'd that go? Terribly, and so many people called it too, but ppl told them to be quiet...

Two years ago, March 18-20, 2016, my wish to be part of the #nhljets came true 👏 I’m going to tweet some memories from the weekend over the next few days if that’s ok 👍 #GoJetsGo #makeawish 💙✈️
My wish happened because I had brain surgery in Sept 2015. I have hydrocephalus, fluid in my spinal chord and a small mass on my brain stem 🤯😐 I’ll have hydrocephalus all my life and I hope the mass doesn’t grow 🙏 #makeawish
My aunt nominated me for a wish after my surgery and in Jan 2016, I met with #makeawish to give them my top 3 wishes. Meeting #NHLJets and skating with them was number 1 of course 😁 I dressed up for the meeting 👨‍💼

We're underway from Bell MTS Place, as the 23-11-7 #NHLJets take on the 10-21-9 Buffalo Sabres. Hellebuyck vs Johnson is your goalie match-up. #wfp
Unlike last night's Toronto-San Jose game, I can confirm no beards have been pulled or torn so far in the opening minute of tonight's contest.
Buffalo gets the first power play, as Joel Armia flagged for hooking 4:20 into the 1st period.
