NEW 🔴🧨
Our highlights for 2021

Tough year.
Covid has exacerbated the cracks in the system.
The Uk gov has increasingly shown its authoritarian tendencies while trying to avoid scrutiny
So, 🙏 for being there: with your growing support, we have kept holding power to account.
1. JANUARY
We discovered Cronysm at the highest level and how the Covid pandemic has been a bonanza for some, while the country was on its knees.

2. FEBRUARY
We found a new government Covid19 contract linked to a friend of #MattHancock, whose husband donated £5,000 to the Health Secretary.

The first of a long series of investigations exposing a Covid Vip lane of lucrative contracts to Tory donors.

The government’s bill on judicial review is published today. The spin says it’s only for lefty lawyers. That’s not true👇
We used it last summer with @mashedkeyboard to defend fair grades for every A level student. They chanted ‘f*ck the algorithm’ then the JR case made the government scrap it: foxglove.org.uk/2020/08/17/we-…
We used JR with @openDemocracy to blow the lid off secret contracts between the NHS and dodgy US spy tech firm Palantir: opendemocracy.net/en/ournhs/weve…

🚨VICTORY in our #NHSDataGrab case! Last night the government announced a serious roll back - they’re going to do (some of) what our coalition has been asking for all along. Sometimes it takes a legal threat to get gov to do the right thing. More here 👇

Govt has announced they’ve FINALLY agreed to a proper information campaign. They’ve said they’ll make sure we ALL know what is happening to our GP data. We really, really hope it happens but we’re certainly not taking their word for it. We will be watching 👀 - so stay tuned!
This is a big win for everyone involved in the campaign to stop the NHS Data Grab, especially our partners @allthecitizens @NPCUK @openDemocracy @DAUK_GP @JustTreatment and @DavidDavisMP

Would you trust this man with your data? Why doesn't this new strategy address any of the concerns raised by doctors & campaigners? How will the govt make it secure? Who will have access to it? This is propaganda pure & simple.
The government paused the roll-out to this because of the public's shock & concern that it was being carried out at high speed, with no publicity & no patient consent. But this is just a white wash.
He literally stood in that exact same spot in front of that exact same picture when he said he threw a protective ring around care homes. We know how that turned out. @allthecitizens part of coalition of orgs with @Foxglovelegal taking urgent legal advice today.

1/. Dido Harding officially applies to become CEO of NHS England

“If she gets the job after spaffing £37bn on Test & Trace, it’s blatant corruption & we should report it to the government’s corruption tsar who is - *checks notes* - #DidoHarding’s husband. Oh.” @davidschneider
2/. #DidoHarding will no doubt draft very compelling cover letter, but I’d suggest anyone on the @NHSEngland interview panel looks at this @PrivateEyeNews article

It puts together things that Dido somehow left out of her official CV

Her career appears to be a litany of disaster Image
3/. “Putting Dido Harding in charge of the NHS would be like putting Gavin Williamson in charge of schools” @davemacladd

As well as getting a peerage, Dido
has also won awards: two wooden spoons from @DailyMailUK for “worst customer service in the UK” while she was at @TalkTalk Image

NEW: June 21 re-opening shelved. Govt finally acknowledges exponential growth of new variant. Yet it’s *still* refusing to disclose data on schools. In this week’s newsletter @dgurdasani1 explains why this is such a scandal
keepingthereceipts.substack.com/p/when-dido-me…
We’ve been banging on about this for last 3 weeks & we intend to carry on because this lack of transparency is literally a threat to life. @dgurdasani1 couldn’t say it any clearer. Full interview 👇 To support our work, please consider subscribing

Why haven’t scientists had access to the data? It’s absolutely infuriating that the govt has been allowed to bury this this crucial information. Secrecy & lack of outside scrutiny has allowed the govt to ignore the danger this new variant poses.

🚨 BREAKING: The #NHSDataGrab has been paused!

Thank you to @Foxglovelegal, to our coalition partners (@TheDA_UK, @DavidDavisMP, @justtreatment and @allthecitizens) and to the over 18,000 people who signed our petition. 🙏

But this is a pause, not a stop.

~ thread
The implementation has been pushed back to 1 September.

However, the Government's plan to take the data of every GP patient in England remains the same.

If you aren't satisfied with what's happening to your health records, you can still opt out: medconfidential.org/how-to-opt-out/
We still have questions:

🔹 How will patients be notified, including people who aren't online?

🔹 On what terms will corporations be allowed to access people's health data?

But the first battle is won. 💪

If you signed our petition, we will update you via email ✉️

🚨BREAKING🚨: @Jochurchill4 has just announced the government is CAVING on the deadline for the #NHSDataGrab.

“We will take some extra time." Implementation now 1 Sept.

People, we've managed to win more time!

WATCH: parliamentlive.tv/event/index/0a…
"We will use this time to talk to patients, doctors, health charities, doctors, and others to strengthen the plan, build a trusted research environment, and ensure that data is accessed securely." - Jo Churchill
This is an important step.

We still have questions: how will patients be notified, including people who aren't online? How will the trusted research environment work? On what terms will corporations be allowed to access people's health data?

But the first battle is WON.

Listen to @cori_crider here from 35:30 asking why NHS Digital dropped out of a planned debate with us today on @bbc5live on the #NHSDataGrab: bbc.co.uk/programmes/m00…
We think it’s probably because NHS Digital actually *agrees* with us that patients need more time to learn about the data grab and to choose whether or not to opt-out, as the BBC reported here: bbc.co.uk/news/technolog…
That means it's only Matt Hancock who refuses to do the right thing: stop the plan, drop the opt-out deadline and launch a proper national debate. Sign our petition to tell him to see sense before we’re forced to take him to court: foxglove.org.uk/nhs-data

All roads lead to genomics

Dido Harding’s was chair of Genomics England

Palantir rptdly taught #CambridgeAnalytica to scrape data

Is the #NHSDataGrab really about about population-wide genomic data?

Complete control?

Bell-Curve eugenicist’s wet dream?
“We could close our eyes & pretend that contrary to all the evidence, #Palantir is a rights-respecting company or we can call this façade what it is: another company placing profit over people, no matter the human cost.” Michael Kleinman, @amnestyusa
The #NHSDataGrab has been underway since Oct 2020 (see Tweet👇)

Why was it ignored for the last 8 months?

News editors, journalists & politicians appeared to be unwilling to report it

It’s great that the #PalantirPlan is now getting wide coverage, but are we already too late?

This is WILD. I’ve never seen this clip before. Watch Dido Harding - revealed today as potential new head of NHS - chat to Cambridge Analytica’s Alexander Nix about the great potential of data exploitation 😱😱😱
#NHSDataGrab
What’s extraordinary is that it’s Cambridge Analytica’s Nix that points out that in UK we require OPT-IN consent to share people’s data.

Which is precisely what #NHSDataGrab is not doing. That requires OPT-OUT consent. For more, read this:

keepingthereceipts.substack.com/p/cambridge-an…
What’s even more wild to me is Dido Harding’s role in all this. She makes a passing appearance in this newsletter because of her previous role as chair of Genomics England (after previously heading up NHS Improvement).

But this is what #NHSDataGrab is all about: it’s data gold.

Please watch this brief @allthecitizens video in which I explain exactly why I’m so concerned about the government’s #NHSDataGrab.

Your health data is such a precious commodity. It should not be sold commercially without your consent.

Please RT.

NEW: why we all need to worry a whole lot more about #NHSDataGrab. This is Cambridge Analytica on steroids.

I’m so profoundly disturbed by what this govt is doing with data.

keepingthereceipts.substack.com/p/cambridge-an…
The speed & secrecy with which govt is doing this is truly alarming.

And it’s not just #NHSDataGrab, it’s also suppressing key data on schools.

It’s why @allthecitizens has launched not 1 but 2 legal cases this week with @A__W______O & @Foxglovelegal

This newsletter owes particular debt to what govt calls 'activist lawyers'. Hugely grateful to @Foxglovelegal for organising challenge against #NHSDataGrab. We're taking on PHE with help of @A__W______O. And we report on threats to JRs as cited by @JolyonMaugham & @GoodLawProject
It also features the brilliant @doctor_oxford. We asked her to explain the #NHSDataGrab. Please watch this. She explains so clearly why we should all be worried. And why we have so little time to stop it.
