How do NSE and BSE earn?

A thread. 🧵
The majority of their revenue comes from Transaction charges which are 0.003% of the total transaction amount.

They charge fees from companies at IPO listing

- listing charge
- book building fee
- rectification fee
- wrong claim fee, etc.
Brokerage firms pay a fee while taking membership from BSE and NSE - like subscription fee, processing fee, operating fee.

Why one needs to protect downside - a thread:

Basics:

If NIFTY goes down from 18,000 to 9,000 it is 50% drop.

Now it needs to go up 100% from thereon to break even and come back to 18,000 and then get into positive territory
Current situation:

Markets have dropped by almost 12% from the peak reached on 18th Oct 2021.

#nifty50 will have to go up by 13.63% and scale back to 18500 from hereon to break even and then get into positive territory.

That is almost 2200 points rise from hereon
Those who invested at market peaks will have to wait much longer to a) break even and b) then go into positive territory

Investing at right Valuations and not at any valuation should matter to the Investors.

For that you need to avoid #FOMO, have #patience & #discipline

Failure is life’s best teacher & loss is stock market’s best teacher!

I lost 80% of my capital in a #Nifty50 stock in just 1 year!

It is my life's worst investment till date & Covid had no role in it!

Here are my Top 5 lessons from my biggest mistake!

Thread 🧵👇
(1/9)
Lesson 1 – Never average down with deteriorating fundamentals

I bought #YesBank in Sep'18. It was in Nifty since 2015 & reported 4k cr PAT in FY18.

1 week later, RBI declined CEO Rana Kapoor’s extension & stock crashed 50%🔻

I kept averaging looking at past performance
(2/9)
In Jan'19, new CEO announcement led to good recovery in stock price.

I thought market is happy and bank is back on track.

But in April, bank declared shocking Q4FY19 numbers.

A loss of 1500 cr which was the 1st ever in the bank’s history!

Stock crashed 50% again 📉

L&T is owned by Reliance Industries? 🤯

Let's Find out how. ⤵ (1/10)
The story dates back to the early 80s; L&T was the largest engineering firm in India.

A wealthy businessman named Manu Chhabria from Dubai had his eyes set on L&T and started buying stakes in the company.

(2)
By 1998 Manu had a 1.5% stake in L&T which he soon intended to increase by planning a takeover against the management’s will.

This had to stop, L&T approached the Ambanis, who brought a 12.5% stake in L&T, which later increased to 18%

Fed hike rate by 0.25% since 2018.

What does that means to Indian stock market?

From the last 2 years i.e. after Covid-19, US government was giving loans at almost a 0% interst rates. That free money was diverted to country like India. And, market was booming.
But Now as already hinted by Fed that they will increase the interest rates 5-6 times in a year, FIIs are continuously pulling money from the Indian market since oct-21 and more than 1 lac crores of money being pulled out.
However, positive thing is, Indian stock market especially #nifty50 and #Sensex are looking resilient with the support of domestic investors. But how long they can support is big question.

LIC IPO- Biggest is not the right word!

The government is expected to raise >75,000 Cr by selling part of its stake in the insurance behemoth LIC.

The issue size is so big that even the word big does not seem to capture the essence of how big it is!

A thread by Bhaskar & me. Image
Some numbers to put things in context-
1. The biggest IPO yet was by One97 Communications (Paytm), which raised just about 18,000 Cr; LIC IPO size is at least 4x.

2. The mutual funds SIP flows/month are upwards of 9,000 Cr; LIC hopes to raise >8x of this amt in 2 days!
3. There are 10 Indian states whose budget size is less than the LIC IPO size.
