Popularly regarded as Canada’s first ‘noise band’, the Nihilist Spasm Band was established in London, Ontario in 1965. 
Not dissimilar to From Remote Stars, the band was brought to fruition by Greg Curnoe; he co-founded the Nihilist Spasm Band to produce a soundtrack for his 1965 film, “No Movie”.
Their unique sound comes from their handmade instruments and improvisation; the late band member Hugh McIntyre says that their music is loud and that their records “should be played at [a] high volume”.
