LOS ANGELES: Illegal lock out is happening right now at 8989 South State St. in Southgate - please come to defend the tenants in support!
An elderly couple that has been in their home in Southgate in @Rendon63rd district for 39yrs had their home sold out from under them (sounds like dual tracking) by a shady real estate company-Strategic Fund 73 LLC.

There was no formal eviction process. This is illegal.
@Rendon63rd Evictions are carried out by sheriffs. But today @SouthGatePD showed up & removed the elderly family- locked them out of their house.

Why is Southgate PD doing evictions? And why did Officer Morales (car 98, badge 10218) not respond and walk away when tenant organizers arrived?

📻Check out ACORN Leeds member Sam on BBC Radio Leeds, talking about why tenants across the country are taking action against evictions and rent debt today!
Through our strength in numbers the Government has been forced to extend the eviction ban again, but we need to push them further. They cannot just kick the can down the road, with hundreds of thousands of renters still in arrears, their futures and homes in limbo.
We demand real protection from eviction and a proper solution to the rent debt crisis, so no tenant has to fear homelessness during a pandemic. And we'll be mobilizing from our doorsteps to the street to fight for it today.

One of the biggest crises we are in: property is still valued—by law, by policy, by power—far above people, exacerbated by every corner of dual pandemics of COVID & racism.

Evictions, poor wages & unsafe workplaces, police violence—all protecting property at expense of lives.
Property owners—in a pandemic—are fighting tooth & nail to preserve the right to evict those who have ppl staying w/them who aren’t listed on the lease. IN A PANDEMIC. When the safest action rn is to keep ppl housed, inside, & able to quarantine if need be.
Renting property is a business that's been stripped of almost all risk to owners by law. But it is also more than a business: it is control over one of most basic needs: shelter. That power comes w/great responsibility—to tenants & community. But still we see how profit is king.

⌛️ Time is running out - the Government must act now to avert a homelessness crisis 🚨 #HousingIsHealth #NoEvictions

Hundreds of thousands of renters have fallen into hardship and arrears and are at risk of eviction when the ban lifts in a week. The Government has left tenants without protection, but we will defend our communities 🛡
We demand the Government write off rent debt accrued during the COVID-19 crisis, make good on their pledge to permanently end no-fault evictions, and extend the eviction ban as they have in Scotland 🚫
