Ok I tried and tried to avoid doing this because I didn’t think it was possibly going to become A Thing, but it has and I’m tired. So here are some reluctant thoughts on Chris Koob, the listed treasurer of the Super PAC set up to express support for @ewarren’s candidacy. A 🧵
First things first, this is my personal twitter and my personal thoughts. These are not the thoughts of any organizations I am affiliated with and these are also not at all affiliated with any campaigns. This is me.
I have devoted my entire career to fighting the climate crisis. I have spent the last eight years literally taking the oil industry head on. I helped run a campaign with the tagline Exxon Hates Your Children. To say I don’t care for the oil industry would be an understatement.

If you’ve been watching my twitter stream recently, you may have noticed this but today’s a good day to be explicit: As someone who’s worked on the #climate crisis at the international, national and local levels for 15 years, I’m proud to be a climate leader #WithWarren. (🧵)
I spend my life fighting for climate justice and I’m absolutely convinced that a President @ewarren would work tirelessly to bring the big, structural change we need to address this climate crisis. Here are a few of the many reasons why I’m proud to be #WithWarren:
.@ewarren understands that corruption lies at the center the climate crisis. That’s why she was the first declared Presidential candidate to sign the #NoFossilFuelMoney pledge and is ready to stand up to the out-of-control fossil fuel industry.

It's been a big week for climate politics. Hundreds of you have been begging me to make a thread. Fine, twist my arm! Here we go:

@JoeBiden released a climate plan, and it's not bad. Wow! Joe really pulled it off--oh wait, parts of it are plagiarized. grist.org/article/claims…
Biden, who was the Democratic frontrunner long before he announced, also made a pretty significant pledge this week: the #nofossilfuelmoney pledge. That's a big deal. The Democratic nominee in 2008, Obama, received more than $1 million from oil and gas. grist.org/article/joe-bi…
Not to be outdone by Biden's plan, which has an international component, @JayInslee released ANOTHER climate plan this week. It charts a course for how to recommit to the Paris agreement. I wrote about why that's significant. grist.org/article/can-th…

Sunrise Movement Statement in Response to @BetoORourke's Climate Plan:

Thread:
.@BetoORourke: this is not what the "latest science demands" and a 2050 net-zero emissions goal is not in line with the #GreenNewDeal.
Leading UN scientists say we need to reduce emissions globally 40-60% by 2030 in order to avoid the worst impacts of climate change & get to net-zero emissions globally by 2050.

To achieve that, the US must do much more, much faster.

Today, #OilMoneyMitch @senatemajldr brought the #GreenNewDeal to a vote in the Senate. Once more, McConnell prioritized his fossil fuel campaign donors over the American people--who overwhelmingly support the GND. @SenateDems showed him they weren’t falling for his tricks.
@senatemajldr @SenateDems The votes officially fell against the resolution because Democrats voted “present.” Both GND supporters and skeptics see that real leadership in 2019 means having a plan to protect life on Earth as we know it, not jamming through unfinished legislation to score political points.
.@AOC and @SenMarkey catalyzed the conversation about the catastrophic climate change and rising inequality that threaten all Americans. Now, thanks to our movement and our allies, a growing number of our country’s lawmakers are going on the offense for bold climate solutions.

There have been so many defining moments in the fight for a #GreenNewDeal. Today, we’re going to announce the next one. But first, we want to show you where we’ve been - so you know why we’re taking this next step together…
Our power as a movement flows from the grassroots. Last Spring, we launched Sunrise Semester, w/ 80 young ppl stepping up to put climate change on the agenda in the primaries & general elections. One of the first people we endorsed for signing the #NoFossilFuelMoney pledge: @AOC
For months we knocked on thousands of doors, made thousands of phone calls to get climate champions into office, candidates who signed the #NoFossilFuelMoney pledge. By November 7, we had helped elect over 500 of them to office at all levels of government-- including Congress.

.@USRepKCastor: you said you hope Select Committee members are "ready to take on corporate polluters and special interests."

Then why refuse to mandate that they sign the #NoFossilFuelMoney pledge?

Reps taking millions from oil and gas CEOs aren't gonna take on their donors.
Politicians being funded by fossil fuel CEOs cannot be trusted to make climate policy.

If you want the Select Committee to be taken seriously, everyone on it needs to sign the #NoFossilFuelMoney pledge.
We're also glad to hear that you think there are some "fabulous proposals" in the Green New Deal.

So, will you commit to fighting for 100% renewable energy by 2030, a jobs guarantee, and support for communities ravaged by climate change like the Green New Deal calls for?
