This is a phenomena seen occasionally in the military as well as in business. The military like the GOA has a hierarchical structure. If you are on a military mission the highest ranked officer would be in charge. #handsoffmypension #noireallymeanit
And, as much as they would seek opinions and feedback from lower ranks, they would have the responsibility for decisions.

Jack Mintz is a smart person and a decorated academic. I have heard him speak several times mostly about CPP enhancement and I met him once. I don't always agree with him, but I do agree that he is intellectual honest.

I was reminded by a friend today that with all of this focus on cost and investment return that I have not dealt with the politicizing of our pension funds and indeed all of assets of AIMCo. Two important parts of the GOA budget announcement:
First, "to build a “made in Alberta” portfolio for healthy public investment". Second, (a paragraph later) "AIMCo is expected to provide maximum returns to its clients, and processes will be expanded to support broader agency involvement."

So many of you are coming back from meeting your MLA with "this will save each teacher $500 per year". Not true. In my nightmare AIMCo under-performs by 1% each year which costs teachers and the GOA a full $200 million each and every year. #ABteachers #whocausedarecession
Let me explain where the $500 dollars "savings" allegedly comes from. AIMCo has said they can reduce investment costs of ATRF assets by 0.2% of assets an almost $20 billion dollar plan. That is $40 million saving split equally between the contributing GOA and teachers.
